Let's Talk Traffic Follow Up

Hello DPM Families,

The Deer Path Administrative team participated in the second event in our D67 Let’s Talk series, this time focusing on the traffic concerns during arrival and dismissal from school. Dr. Montgomery facilitated a community wide discussion with representatives from the Lake Forest Police Department, the Lake Forest Rec Center, and DPM parents because the traffic during these critical times during the day impacts everyone. The assembled team worked together to develop some interventions to alleviate some of the reported issues in the DPM parking lot and on Deerpath Road. We will continue to look at solutions to the dismissal procedures and work with the City of Lake Forest to create a situation that efficiently, effectively, and safely allows for all community members to utilize the Rec Center, Deer Path, Fire and Police stations. The below procedures will go into effect on November 1, 2021.

Let’s Talk Traffic Highlights:

Families should only drive in the right in-bound lane on Hastings Road to enter the DPM parking lot.
Once in the parking lot, families should pull up to the front on the right side of each row to allow the maximum number of cars to wait on campus and alleviate traffic on Hastings and Deerpath Road.
Families and staff should use the right lane for standing and the left lane for passing.
Families may all park in open spots to the west side of each lane (Red in the diagram below) if they are waiting for their child.
Staff have also been instructed to park in the west parking spots in each lane if they wish to leave between 3:35 - 3:50 pm to limit the disruption of traffic.
Families are encouraged to carpool when possible, or wait until after 3:45pm to pick up their children once a majority of cars and buses have departed campus.
Additional Lake Forest Police Officers will assist School Resource Officer Maj with dismissal during the month of November to train parents on the updated procedures and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
School will be open at 8:05 am for students to enter both the Haskins and Cube, starting November 1st.
