MRS. JOHNSON'S NOTES
Dear Parents,

We had a great week of parent conferences. Although it was different from ever before, teachers were still able to meet with parents via Zoom and discuss progress for their child. After hearing from some parents, they felt it was easier than coming in person and saved time.

Red Ribbon week begins today. Students wear red to show their support of a drug free environment. Monday students will dress in their color stables and wear crazy socks.
The online book fair ends October 26. Get your orders in now. The money raised during the book fair go to purchasing more books for the media center.
Wednesday is picture day. All students will get their picture taken for the yearbook. Make sure you dress to impress! Digital students had the opportunity to sign up for a time slot to get their picture taken. Friday is (almost) Halloween. Students may dress in a costume, but may not have any scary masks or have swords or any type of play weapon. We would love to see our digital students' costumes. Please post your pictures to the Padlet on the main eCLASS page.

School Communication
There are several ways that we communicate school news. We encourage parents to sign up for each of these communications to stay connected with what's going on at Head Elementary!
SchoolMessenger
SchoolMessenger is a rapid notification system used to contact families in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) via telephone messages, text messages, and email messages. The district uses the system to communicate information related to districtwide events, including safety alerts and school closings due to inclement weather. Schools also may use the system to communicate general/non-emergency information related to school events and attendance messages via email.

E-SPLOST
On November 3, 2020, Gwinnett voters will be asked to consider continuing the E-SPLOST (education special purpose local option sales tax). Over the years, Gwinnett students and school communities have benefited from the E-SPLOST which has provided thousands of needed classrooms as well as technology improvements that are essential to teaching and learning. MEDIA CENTER

Get your quizzes done by Friday 10/30 for the October challenge!
We can't wait to see the progress this past month!
Login is student number and the password is mustangs.

Our book fair will be ending on October 28th (Wednesday) at midnight.  While it isn't the book fair we had in mind, we still had fun with it and we really appreciate the support of our parents and PTA.   Mrs. Branch ended up with 2 orders because she couldn't decide on what to get!  Once she reads them and takes the quizzes, she will donate them to the Media Center!

In-person students: Starting on Monday, we will be picking up book returns at 9 am when we pick up the ice cream money from each class.  3rd and 4th will still drop off outside the Media Center since they are next door.  We are asking that students read their books, take the AR quiz and then put new books on hold while on their last book.  Please keep track of due dates so the books do not become overdue!  We print a checkout sheet for every student with the due dates.  There is a 4 book limit for in person students with at LEAST 1 non-fiction.

Digital students: 10 book hold max.  We pick up your returns, deliver your new order at the same time.  You don't need to make a special drop off trip.  Pickup times are still Friday 9-10:45 am and 1-2:15 pm.  If that does not work for you, contact maria.branch@gcpsk12.org and we can work out a time.   Please keep track of due dates so the books do not become overdue!  We print a checkout sheet for every student with the due dates.   The number to the media center is 770-736-2109.

Links to all of the Media Center videos that Mrs. Griffith has made are above.... how to put books on hold, do AR, the Online Research Library.  Mrs. Griffith has a "how to" video to answer all of your questions!  If you still have questions, contact us (see above!)

Thank you so much for your support of the Media Center!
