ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

YOU SHALL BE REPARERS OF THE BREACH ISAIAH 58

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. [35] For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, [36] I was naked, and you clothed me, I was sick, and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ [37] Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? [38] And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? [39] And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ [40] And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ (ESV)

Matthew 25:34–40
On Palm Sunday our church will have the opportunity to participate in our denomination’s One Great Hour of Sharing. This special offering is divided into thirds and goes to support three missions: Hunger, Disaster, and Development. Presbyterians worldwide will be participating throughout the Lenten season.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)
I have been blessed for the last four years to be part of the National Response Team of PDA. I have seen firsthand how this ministry impacts those who suffer from natural and manmade disasters. A refugee ministry is also included. I was part of a team in 2019 the traveled to El Paso, TX to assist two churches who had organized a hospitality site for refugees released from detention before traveling to their sponsors in our country. Without this site the refugees would have been released in the city with no support. Over the course of the COVID crisis I have facilitated small emotional/spiritual care groups of first responders as well as clergy who are on the front lines of assisting people in crisis. PDA works alongside communities as they recover and find hope.

Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP)
This ministry takes action to alleviate hunger, care for creation, and the systemic causes of poverty. In 2019 PHP gave 94 grants totally over $1 million, impacting 20 countries including our own. Around the world PHP has worked to alleviate famine in South Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Norther Nigeria.

Self-Development of People (SDOP)
This ministry invests in communities responding to their experiences of oppression and poverty and educates Presbyterians about the impact of these issues. Click here to see a map of all the projects and grants that have been made possible by this offering.

We can be proud that our denomination is answering Jesus’s call to serve those in need. Please give generously.
