Principal News
Dear Westmoor Families-

It was a short rainy week but we've packed a lot of learning into the four days. Picture Day took place on Wednesday and Thursday for in-person, Young Explorers, and Remote Learning Academy students. Students came in with their biggest smiles for the special day! If your student was not able to participate we will have retakes on October 14.
This week I was able to visit a few of our remote learning classes. It was great to see our Westmoor students and I look forward to visiting more classes next week.
I'm very happy to announce that Quote of the Week is back! Please see the link below in the School News section for details on how to submit a quote. We're are looking forward to seeing submissions from our in-person and remote learners.
I'll see our RLA families on Wednesday, September 16 for materials pick up. Please remember we will be set up in front of Westmoor by the office doors (door A) from 4:30-5:30. It is helpful if you have your last name displayed in the front window so we can quickly locate your materials. Looking forward to seeing you!
We had our first Westmoor PTO meeting of the year today. Thanks to all our families that attended the meeting. I'd like to encourage you to attend a meeting this year. It's a great way to receive updates on what is happening around the school and meet new Westmoor families.
Please see the video below for a guest appearance from Buddy the Bulldog and Mrs. Ferraro! We have an update on the birthdays and how we will celebrate our in-person and remote learning students.
Have a great weekend!
-Mary

Quote of the Week:

Our Quote of the Week is back! Students submit inspirational short quotes/ life mottos for the hallway blackboards. In the past this has been filled out on a sheet of paper, this year we will use Google Forms so that all our remote learning students can participate too. Ms. Nolan will choose two entries per week. Please submit your ideas by using the Weekly Quote Link
MAP Assessments Begin September 21
The NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Math & Reading assessment will begin the week of September 21. The assessment is a computer-based, untimed, adaptive assessment that each 2nd-5th grade student will take three times per year. For more information about the MAP assessments, check out the NWEA MAP Parent Toolkit. Parents will receive student profile reports in October. For a full list of district assessments please click the District Assessments link.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:

5th grade keyboard cases have arrived! The iPad cases for our new 5th grade iPads have arrived and will be switched out next week. Our RLA students will receive their keyboards in the RLA pick up scheduled for September 16.
Westmoor Library Services:
Please check out this library link to find out how kids can reserve and check out books from the Westmoor library this year!
Safety Updates:
Thank you to our families for helping us each morning by performing the self certification process. Please remember this needs to be done prior to a student arriving at school before 8 a.m. It also helps us out tremendously if you do this ASAP, as we track who has not certified and begin calling families by 8:00am.

As in past years I like to remind our families that Shannon Road is not a drop off/pick up location for the school. Please use our carline if you are dropping off or picking up. If you park on Shannon Road to walk your student to the doors please follow traffic laws. By doing this you are ensuring the safety of our students.

Library Materials Checkout
We are looking forward to our first pickup of library materials! Thank you to our school librarians for their efforts to ensure RLA students have access to school library books.

Please note, RLA elementary students can place up to 10 books on hold, but not all books may be available and delivered on their pick up day. This is because:
Some books will need to be quarantined for 4 days before they recirculate.
Some books that are placed on hold may be previously checked out and not available.
If a student is interested in a book in Destiny Discover that is labeled as “OUT”, s/he may still place that book on hold. S/he will then be added to a waiting list. (Wait time is determined when the book is returned and by the student’s place in line.)

The librarians will do their best to deliver as many books as available, up to 10 books maximum. Please note we may update our procedures and will share these updates with you.

The Westmoor RLA Library Guide provides information on how your child can reserve books from your home school’s library. Your child’s RLA teachers will help them learn how to use the system as well.

REMINDER Books & Class Materials Pickups
On September 16 from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., please plan to pick up library books and other materials assembled by your child’s teacher. This will be a drive through pick up at Westmoor School.

The iPad cases for our new 5th-grade iPads have arrived and will be included in the materials pickup on Sept. 16th. We will collect the temporary ‘flap-style’ case from each family at the October materials pick up.

Remote MAP Assessments
RLA Students in 2nd - 5th grade will take the NWEA MAP reading and math tests between September 29 - October 23. The RLA teachers will help your child complete the tests remotely. The exact dates and times for testing will be communicated by your child’s teacher. We will send parents more information soon about how the test administration will work, but for now, here are a few things to know about taking the MAP assessment remotely:
