September 14, 2020

I was so glad to be a part of yesterday's service. It was a great day to see our children and youth be recognized as they learn and grow in their faith. It is a great reminder how God never stops working in our lives even if it feels like the world is constantly trying to tell us otherwise. We can be the hands and feet in the world even when our in-person options get limited by a pandemic. On September 30, from 6-8 p.m., we are having a community Donation Drive-Thru Drop-Off.
"What does that mean?", you might be asking... we are having a collaborative ministry event where you can drop off items for one or several organizations that help in different ways around our community. AND you can get some delicious soft serve ice cream from our friends at Huskey's Dairy Bar.
That sounds good but what are we collecting? Check below for specific needs for these organizations:
Community Cupboard: non-perishable food; we will get more specific items closer to the date.
Backpack Buddies: non-perishable snack, breakfast, and lunch items.
Heart and Hand: clothing and home items
Little Free Library: gently used books for all ages.
Right From the Start: infant items including: clothes Newborn -12M, diapers and wipes, nursing supplies, cribs, bassinets, pack n plays, strollers, high chairs, and similar items.
Operation Christmas Child: this year we are packing boxes online; you can pick up information about how to pack a box yourself, or we can help you. Boxes cost $25 including shipping and tracking AND you can pick the items for your box.
As always, thank you for your generous spirits and your willingness to support missions and good work within our community. We are blessed to be a blessing.

Congratulations!
On Sunday, September 13, Lydia Peterson, Bailey Philyaw, Ashton Warner, and Zoey Williams were confirmed and received as members of Forrest Burdette. Bailey and Zoey also received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. In addition to celebrating Confirmation, our 3rd graders received their Bibles: Sylvie Bartkowski, Reese Ramey, Rylee Ramey, and Emily Wilson. Congratulations to these children and youth!

Backpack Buddies Packing Volunteers!
With the school year having started, we are finally gearing up to help serve our neighbors through our Backpack Buddy Ministry. Please consider signing up for weekly packing for our 3 schools. You can find the online sign up sheet by clicking here.
Through generous donations during the Covid-19 Crisis, we've been able to help stock up on our normal items for packing, but we always welcome any donations during the week and on Sundays before or after our live worship service at 10:30 a.m. This school year may prove to be the most needed year for this ministry, and we can always use your help and support, both financial and prayerful.

Please Continue to RSVP for In-Person Worship
Remember to call or email the church to reserve a spot at one of our in-person worship services each week. Services are offered Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Please contact the office by Friday afternoon for Sunday reservations. (304-562-5903, office@forrestburdette.com)

Volunteers Needed for Quilting
The construction of baby quilts and Christmas Family quilts (Young At Heart Quilters and the Ruth Byrd Circle) has safely resumed on Tuesday mornings. If you are able to help with tacking and binding the quilts, please contact Karen Lilly at 304-562-9241. Thank you!

Remember the Cupboard
The Christian Community Cupboard has continued to serve our community throughout this pandemic. Please remember them when shopping. Especially needed from Forrest Burdette are canned peas and canned carrots.

Organ Concert Series Update
The 2020-2021 PipeSounds Organ Concert Series will not begin in October as previously scheduled. David Haggerty was to be our special guest on October 4, but because of the continuing need for social distancing and travel restriction, this first concert has been cancelled. We are hopeful that we will be able to offer our annual holiday concert later in the year.

Live Stream Tech Volunteers Needed
To help continue our Facebook-Live presence for our 10:30 a.m. worship services, we need several volunteers to train and learn the process to help this outreach. We are blessed with the technology to be able to reach others for Christ in this new way. Please consider being a part of this team! Please contact Karen in the office or Pastor Jeremy.

Visit Our YouTube Channel
Our FBKids and FBUth Ministries have continued to provide instruction and entertainment for our children and youth, and all the videos can be found on our YouTube channel. Past worship services and devotionals are available as well. If you have some free time,  check out our channel by clicking here!

Your Prayers & Thanksgivings
We welcome your regular prayers and continued giving. This is the perfect time to learn about our online giving option. Click here to access the online giving instructions from the Forrest Burdette website. Your continued giving to the church, as you are able, is important for us to keep paying our expenses. Thank you so much for sending your offerings! If not online, then please mail your regular offering to 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane WV 25526. To save a stamp, you may deposit your offering in our locked mailbox on Putnam Avenue. Open the top door, and slide your envelope all the way to the back of the box, where it will fall into the locked area. Thank you for your support of this ministry.

Do you need a mask?
We know of a handful of members who are making masks. If you need a mask, please contact the church office, and we can put you in contact with our mask-makers. (304-562-5903)

Would you like a set of offering envelopes?
Please contact the church office if you would like us to prepare a set of undated offering envelopes for your household (304-562-5903, or office@forrestburdette.com). We will mail the set to you.
