The Fall 2020 offerings of Arts & Culture events in British Columbia represent an innovative commitment to celebrating the human spirit. Adaptation and perseverance are at the core of these festivals, acknowledging the crucial importance of ensuring audience safety while fuelling the heart of our creative community. Whether online or in intimate settings, each event is a testament to the enduring health of our cultural society.
The Vancouver Fringe Theatre Society is joining many other Vancouver Arts organizations introducing reimagined Fall seasons. The Society is hosting staggered dates for the 2020 Vancouver Fringe Festival, with live performances and events that took place from September 10-20, as well as select dates in the subsequent months. Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture. At the end of each September, millions of people attend thousands of participatory arts and culture events across the country. In BC, artists, cultural organizations, and municipalities host more than 500 free events and activities for the public each year. This year Culture Days has been extended to a month-long celebration from September 25-October 25, 2020. Experiences range from “Do it Yourself” activities and outdoor arts excursions to live-streamed events and virtual installations.
Join the Artists for Conservation Festival for a multi-day art and environmental education event. The festival features the Artists for Conservation annual show, profiling the world’s top conservation-themed art exhibit and artist expo, benefiting wildlife. Meet leading artists, buy art and enjoy live music. The event also includes art demos, an opportunity to view live birds of prey, film screenings, presentations and cultural performances. The AFC Festival 2020 will be held at the VanDunsen Botanical Garden.
In celebration of BC Culture Days, ten featured artists will be profiling their work in painting, crafting and jewelry making, with live music, drinks and prizes on hand. Be sure to RSVP early as this physically distanced event requires advanced registration to meet COVID-19 protocols.

The New West Cultural Crawl is a two-day visual art and cultural festival that celebrates New Westminster’s creative character and diversity. This two-day event will include open studios where local artists feature their work and creative process. Look for special events and live paint-ins at popular arts, culture and heritage destinations around the city. The self-guided crawl is arranged in convenient neighbourhood clusters that showcase local art in galleries, studios and other venues.
Singer Krystle Dos Santo brings the life of Canadian civil rights icon Viola Desmond to the stage, performing a cabaret of songs that help detail her stand for racial equality in 1940s Nova Scotia. Given the Black Lives Matter movement and protests in support of BIPOC equality, the meaning of this show resonates deeply for contemporary audiences. Based in Downtown New Westminster, the Anvil Centre website outlines the COVID protocols in place to ensure event safety.
Support Arts Umbrella through their annual art auction. In-person tickets include admission to one of several intimate locations, with large screens to simulcast the Live art auction across each venue. The evening also includes an open bar and exquisite food, as well as special hosts and live entertainment. At Home tickets include special food & beverage delivery, with a live link to the auction. The Sechelt Arts Festival celebrates multidisciplinary arts at a variety of venues throughout the District, including three visual art venues, live music & dance, fire juggling, and workshops. This year's hybrid mix of live and online events includes two premiere performances: a Dan Brubeck Centenary Concert, plus solos and duets by Vancouver/NYC based international choreographer Josh Beamish. The 2020 Festival will overlap with the Sunshine Coast Art Crawl, BC Culture Days & Sechelt’s annual Art Walk.
All Art Crawl Artists/Venues will be featured “Virtually Together” with Studio Visit appointment and drop in options following Provincial Health Guidelines in 2020. Travel along the entire Sunshine Coast Highway from Gambier Island and Langdale to Earl’s Cove. Meet the artists in their studios and experience the vibrant arts and culture community on the Sunshine Coast. Collect your Passport at crawl venues, the Sunshine Coast Credit Union or Visitor Centres to earn prizes during the event.
The Chutzpah! Festival has established a reputation for presenting Vancouver audiences with new and exciting, critically acclaimed artists from all over the world. Also known as the Lisa Nemetz International Jewish Performing Arts Festival, 2020 marks 20 years of dance, music, comedy & theatre. This year, all Chutzpah! programming will be available online with select performances available to attend in person at the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre in a special, intimate setting.
