BETH EL HAPPENINGS
Shabbat services will continue to be in person (masks optional) as well as via Zoom.

Your generous contributions of toys for the Toy Drive completed the wish lists of many children in foster care! The generosity of the entire community filled the wish lists of over 2,000 children in foster care!! WOW!!
However, as I was volunteering at JFCS today, there was a sad realization that there are 100 children whose wish lists have not been started much less completed.
Fortunately, we have a little time and the opportunity to help! Here’s how!
  • Sponsor a child, Contact Vickie Kennedy (vickie@bethelbeaches.org) to request a wish list to fill for a child. The wish list contains 4-6 items that the child has requested.
  • The average amount spent on each child is $75, but many donors go over and above that amount, purchasing every item on the child’s list.
  • Place gifts in a gift bag (unwrapped) and drop them off at Beth El or JFCS’ Baycenter location (8540 Baycenter Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256).
  • If you would like to drop the gift bag at Beth El, please bring it Tuesday-Thursday 9:00-4:30 or Sunday, December 19th 8:00-1:00. Vickie will bring the gift bags to JFCS on Monday, December 20.
.
OR: Make a monetary donation and Vickie will do the shopping for you!
This is…

so silly, but I’ve got to get this out of my head and onto paper. So, I had surgery on my right hand two weeks ago and get the stitches taken out as you read this. None of this is a big deal. Not that I’m complaining, but “they” say I have to keep my hand above my heart to minimize swelling. No problem. But…you can only keep your hand upright when your elbow is sitting on a chair/sofa/couch arm, propped up. Well, that’s all well and good but after a while (in my case 6 minutes) my shoulder begins to stiffen up (an old tennis injury, throwing my shoulder out on my “serve” resulting in wearing a sling for a couple of weeks). So, my solution, which works well for me, is to extend my arm straight up from my shoulder. In essence, my hand is wayyyy above my heart. How will that look at services? Just an advance warning!
