Important details about inclement weather days

This year, "snow days" will look different. During the 2020-2021 school year, inclement weather will result in a virtual instruction day, rather than cancellation of school. Students will learn at home on that day, and the school day will not be required to be made up later in the year.

Earlier notification
When possible, in the event of inclement weather, the decision to implement a virtual instruction day will be made by 10 p.m. the night before.

In the event of rapidly changing weather conditions, you will be notified the evening before that a weather announcement will be made by 5:30 a.m. on the day of the cancellation.

How we will communicate
In the event of a virtual instruction day due to inclement weather, the district will use all available media to communicate effectively:
  • We will use our SchoolMessenger service to send a recorded telephone message to all employees and families of each student.
  • A text message will be sent via Textcaster. You can sign up here.
  • All subscribers of RP Update, the district's electronic newsletter, will receive an email. Subscribe by sending a message to [email protected].
  • Information will be shared on local television stations (4, 5, 9, and 41) and some radio stations.
  • An update will be available via the district information line at 816-892-3988.
  • The announcement will be posted on the district website,  Facebook page, and via  Twitter.
Elementary school activities
In the event of a virtual instruction day due to inclement weather, all elementary after-school and evening events will be cancelled and/or rescheduled.

Middle school activities
In the event of a virtual instruction day due to inclement weather, all middle school events will be cancelled and/or rescheduled. This includes after-school practices and meetings, and evening activities.

High School activities
Watch for separate notifications about high school events or activities. In some cases, those activities may continue as scheduled.

Grab & Go meals

A grab & go school lunch and breakfast will be available, at limited locations, between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Bridle Ridge Elementary, Creekmoor Elementary & Raymore Elementary will be the pick-up site options. Students in all grades can order to pick-up on inclement weather days, if it was their scheduled in-person learning day. Sign up by 8:30 a.m. any day that in-person school is cancelled: Sign up here

Meal packs on Fridays

If the inclement weather day occurs on a Friday, 3-Day & 5-Day Meal Pack Pick-Up and Delivery will occur as regularly scheduled, unless those participating are directly notified otherwise via e-mail.
