Sunday School
This week's highlight comes from:
Mrs. Arev Mouradian (5th & 6th grades) & Mrs. Christine Bedrossian (1st and 2nd grades)
Mrs. Christine's class (1st and 2nd graders) are continuing to learn the importance of praying and the Bible. This week we focused on the lord's prayers and how Jesus taught this prayer to his followers.
This week in Mrs. Arev's class we discussed about being Jesus' disciples. How it's important for us as Christians to share the GOOD NEWS. The best way is to be a good example of Christianity to our family and others.
We hope all of you can join us this coming Sunday, December 13 for our last Virtual Sunday School, for the season of 2020.

Salt & Light Youth Group Holiday Fundraiser |
Let There Be Light...
In Christianity, light has always been a symbol of holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, grace, hope, and God's revelation. By contrast, darkness has been associated with evil, sin, and despair. The whole of creation began, we are told with the majestic 'Let there be light', and Jesus sensationally said: "I am the Light of the World" (John 8.12).
2020 has been a challenging year. When we reflect on our experience for the past year we can identify with the words of the scripture: "Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains" (Psalm 107:10). We experienced darkness and suffered death with the Covid-19 pandemic, the deadly explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, and the horrible war of Artsakh. For so many of us, this year has been associated with evil, sin, and despair.
It is the season of Advent. The church is helping us prepare to welcome the Nativity of Christ. As we celebrate the Birth of Jesus, we are aware of the magnitude of this event where God becomes one of us to show us the way back to God. Prophets inspired by God, foretold about this event centuries before the birth of Jesus as they proclaimed:
"The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned" (Isaiah 9:2).
These prophetic words sound so comforting and encouraging to us especially this year. We are desperate for the hope that the birth of the Child Jesus can bring to us and fill our darkened souls with His Divine Light.
Let there be Light...
Attached is a picture of beautifully decorated holiday candle vases symbolizing the Light of Jesus brought to our homes and our hearts that our Salt & Light Youth group will be selling for their fundraiser. These vases will be blessed during church service this Sunday, December 13th, and be available for purchase.

Thank You For Your Support |
Thank You Members and Donors
On Sunday, November 29, 2020, St. Sarkis Church had a special general membership meeting to report on a major structural and safety issue around the school part of the church building. The overall cost of the repair was $70,000. The Board had re-appropriated $20,000 from the Church savings but the church needed $50,000 in emergency repair funds. The membership meeting approved the project and a fundraising campaign was launched immediately. I am humbled to report that in less than ten days a total amount of $55,150.00 was raised. This is yet another testimony of the amount of love and care that our community members have for St. Sarkis Church. I am appreciative of all you've done for St. Sarkis Church. I am grateful to the following individuals and families who responded urgently to my appeal. I pray that the Almighty Lord will bless you abundantly. Prayerfully, Fr. Nareg Terterian, Pastor & The Board of Trustees of St. Sarkis Church

THE SECOND EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE HEBREWS (1.1-14)
In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
For to which of the angels did God ever say,
"You are my Son; today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire." But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy." He also says, "In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end." To which of the angels did God ever say, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"? 14Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE (17.1-10)
Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves.
"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."
The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"
He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.
"Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'? Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'

This Saturday (December 12) is the Feast of St. James (Hagop) of Nisibis (Mdzbin). He participated in the first ecumenical council in Nicaea (325), where he earned great respect from the Emperor Constantine and the other attendees. He was born and died in the city of Nisibis located in what is now southeastern Turkey, an important early Christian center in Asia Minor and a transit point of the caravans traveling east and west.
James is one of the most beloved saints in the Armenian Church. He is also honored by the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Coptic Church, and the Eastern Catholic and Roman Catholic Churches. He was ordained Bishop of Nisibis in 320 AD.
St. James sought to find Noah's Ark as proof for skeptics. On the eve of his ascent to the summit, an angel appeared and told him that he need not climb to the summit and gave him a piece of the Ark. The piece is kept at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The heavenly hosts rejoiced at the greatness of your feats by which you in the flesh became like the angels on high; we have you as intercessor for us before the Father in heaven. And we with a joyful voice celebrate your holy memory, O venerable witness of Christ, holy father James; we have you as intercessory for us before the Father in heaven. You decided on severe toils to see Noah's Ark and from the angel's hand received a portion of the wood which served the human race as salvation; we have you as intercessor for us before the Father in heaven."
(Canon to St. James, Bishop of Nisibis, from the Liturgical Canons of the Armenian Church)
Thursday, December 10: Sts. Eustratius, Auxentius, Eugene, Orestes, and Mardarius.

During these uncertain times, we welcome you to the practice of lighting a virtual candle.
Lighting a candle is a way of extending one's prayer and showing solidarity with the person on whose behalf the prayer is offered.
"When Jesus spoke to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
This Sunday Rev. Fr. Nareg Terterian personally will light a candle for every donation received.
