LATEST CITY NEWS & UPDATES
Following a comprehensive two-year review of all policies and procedures, the Sterling Heights Police Department has received accreditation from the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC).

This accreditation is a significant professional achievement acknowledging the agency has met 108 different national standards for operational effectiveness. Sterling Heights Police Department is the second largest of the 38 departments in the state of Michigan to become certified and the largest department certified in Macomb County.

In order to obtain accreditation, the Sterling Heights Police Department conducted a thorough self-analysis of existing operations. Any operations that didn’t already meet the national standards were adapted to meet those standards, following which a team of trained MLEAC assessors verified that the department was in compliance.

In addition, assessors hosted community feedback sessions, allowing residents to weigh in on their experience with the department. In order to maintain the MLEAC accreditation, the department will be required to have an annual inspection to ensure continued compliance with all national standards.

We are very proud of our whole department who worked through this process, and have made it a priority to meet and exceed national best practice standards. Our department will continue to provide our residents, business owners and visitors the unparalleled service they deserve and expect.
We officially cut the ribbon on the latest public art project in Sterling Heights! The colorful mural named “Trailblazer” was painted by local artist Wendy Popko and vibrantly reflects the active community we have here in Sterling Heights!

The mural also creates an augmented reality experience through the Electrifly app that features an interactive game allowing guests to play soccer back and forth with the youth in the painting, keeping score and increasing speed as they move through the game!

The mural is located on the south side of Ventimiglia's Italian Foods Co. (35197 Dodge Park Road in Sterling Heights). Come check it out!
