April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). As a community, this is a time that allows us to reflect on how we work to create safe and supportive spaces for victims and survivors of sexual assault. We invite you to look at the resources below to learn more about how we can educate ourselves and those around us while creating a society that starts by believing victims and providing them the tools they need to move forward from a traumatic event.
In times when we might be feeling isolated, alone, and nervous about the future, we have also created amazing ways to connect and support each other. Together, we can reach the vision of a violence-free future.

As the Founder and Executive Director of WomenSpirit Coalition, I join with my Staff and the Board to acknowledge
April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
We would like to recommend that this year we focus our attention on the Bystander.
An engaged Bystander is someone who intervenes before, during or after witnessing inappropriate sexual comment or innuendo, tells a rape joke or touches someone in a sexual manner.
This month we are promoting
“The Bystander Moment -Transforming Rape Culture at its Roots” by Jackson Katz.

"Sexual assault, at its core, is a devastating abuse of power -- one that affects people of every age, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, socioeconomic background, and religion. It is the responsibility of each of us to stand up and speak out against it, not only to improve the laws and services available to survivors, but also to change the culture and attitudes that allow sexual assault to proliferate. Together, we must work toward a society that upholds every person's right to live free from sexual violence -- where our institutions and communities commit to preventing sexual assault and sexual harassment, supporting survivors, and holding offenders accountable."

Recognize an advocate, officer, judicial staff or whoever goes above and beyond to support the survivor

Everyone is encouraged to write a note to your Victims Services program to all sexual assault survivors letting them know there is support for them
Thursday, April 29th
Denim Day is an event in which people are encouraged to wear jeans (denim)
to raise awareness of rape and sexual assault.

We, like the rest of the world, have watched in horror as we witness the rise in hate speech, violence and discrimination towards the Asian and Pacific Islander communities over the last few years.
WomenSpirit Coalition stands with the AAPI community and condemns these acts of violence in the strongest possible terms.
We stand firm in our commitment, through direct action and collective organizing to honor our common histories and experiences of violence and oppression by working together for a future were we are all protected.

WomenSpirit Coalition works to build a world where victims are honored and all offenders are held accountable.
We work towards this mission by holding ourselves accountable, through both action and education. We must recognize our relationships and experiences with racism, gender based violence, white supremacy and colonial violence and how it has created significant trauma in indigenous and other minority communities. It is through telling our stories and receiving the stories of others that we transform the trauma into resilience.
Without education, there can be no justice. Without justice, there can be no peace. The change starts now.

Rental Assistance Grants to DV Survivors
ICVSRRC is able to provide a limited number of Housing Assistance Grant to DV Survivors to help them maintain safe and stably housed during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Clients must complete an intake with ICVSRRC to receive this assistance. Intakes must be completed by no later than June 2, 2021.
