FAMILY MOVIE OF THE WEEK
Mulan (G)

Fearful that her ailing father will be drafted into the Chinese military, Mulan takes his spot - though, as a girl living under a patriarchal regime, she is technically unqualified to serve. She cleverly impersonates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits. Accompanied by her dragon, Mushu, she uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way! Exploring themes of family duty and honor, Mulan is a wonderfully enjoyable Disney film, with beautiful animation and memorably loving characters (Eddie Murphy is a standout as Mushu!). Watch it for the first time, or again as a re-fresher, before you see the new live action version!

Check it out at the Library or put a hold on it with your library card HERE

BABY CORNER
Apple Sensory Play
Since autumn is upon us, it is a good time to go apple picking and think all things apple. This is a great time to introduce your baby to learning all about apples. What they look and feel like and they are naturally edible, so it is perfect for a sensory bin! You could do apple slices and the whole apple all in one bin!

Supplies needed:
  • A tray or shallow bin
  • Apples
  • Oatmeal
  • Plastic/wooden spoons, scoopers

Just set it all out and your little one will have an apple good time. Use it as a teachable moment and let them hear some new vocabulary words such as apple, red, round, fruit, stem.
You can extend the activity by putting out another bin with just water in it. And make it an apple washing sensory bin. This can be especially fun and less messy if you are doing this outside.

Give them a bin filled with water and a dish washing brush. Then model for them how to wash an apple. You can add a little dish soap and make it a foam rinse.
Miss Kathy fans, make sure to watch our Facebook page Friday mornings for her weekly baby and toddler programs. Babies and Toddlers class starts at 10:00 a.m. and class for 2-3-year olds starts at 10:30 a.m. No registration necessary!
CATCH THE READING BUG
CNN and Sesame Street team up this Saturday for a new Town Hall tackling all things back-to-school, from staying healthy in classrooms to making the most of remote learning. The hour-long special, The ABCs of Back to School, will be hosted by CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Anchor, Erica Hill along with Sesame Street’s Big Bird on Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m. ET on CNN, CNN International, and CNN en Español.

Sesame Street Muppets join school-aged children in a variety of learning environments, with Elmo going to preschool during the week, Big Bird in hybrid learning, and Rosita fully remote. The trio will be joined by Abby Cadabby and her brother Rudy, Super Grover, and other friends from Sesame Street, along with Sesame Workshop’s Vice President and Education Publisher for Sesame Learning, Akimi Gibson.

The special will stream live without requiring a log-in on CNN.com’s homepage and across mobile devices via CNN’s apps for iOS and Android. It can also be viewed on CNNgo (at CNN.com/go on your desktop, smartphone, and iPad and via CNNgo apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Chromecast, and Android TV) and will be available on demand to subscribers via cable/satellite systems, CNNgo platforms, and CNN mobile apps.
