Contra Costa’s Elections Office has started mailing ballots on August 13th for the upcoming September 14th recall election. If you do not receive your ballot by August 30th, call (925) 335-7800 for a replacement ballot.

Make Sure You Are Registered to Vote to Get a Ballot

If you are not registered to vote, you will not receive a ballot. Click here to register to vote. After August 30th, you must register in person at an early voting site, at the Elections Office in Martinez, or at an Election Day polling place.

Voting by Mail

No stamp is required to return your ballot if you use the postage paid return envelope sent to you along with your ballot.   Just mark and sign the ballot, place it in the envelope, seal it, and mail it back.   Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day, and received within seven (7) days after the election.   Our health officials strongly urge voting by mail as the safest option.

Official Ballot Drop Boxes

You can also drop off your ballot at one of 36 official drop boxes across the County.  In West County there are 24/7 drop boxes at the Richmond, San Pablo, El Cerrito and Pinole City Halls, and at the Kensington, El Sobrante and Hercules Libraries.

Voting in Person

The County Health Officer asks that voters reserve in-person voting for those that require in-person services.   You can vote at a regional early voting site on Friday, Saturday and Monday right before Election Day. In West County, those sites are at El Cerrito City Hall and the Richmond Memorial Auditorium. You can also vote at one of 153 polling locations open on Election Day from 7 am to 8 pm.

Those voting in person will be required to wear a mask.  Masks will be available at the voting location for those who don’t bring one. All Elections staff and volunteers will be wearing masks and sanitizer will be available. Equipment will be sanitized regularly.

Track Your Ballot

The California Secretary of State will send you notices about when your ballot is received and counted if you sign up for ballot tracking.
