Paul Demeda Shares Material From The Con Ed Course

Join us Tuesday, August 17 at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 pm PT for a 1 hour webinar, as Paul Demeda CNP examines environmental sources of toxicity. There are thousands of chemicals in our environment, and studies show we have hundreds of toxins in our blood. Toxins have been shown to contribute to a wide variety of health conditions – from acne to cancer. Detoxification has been used to promote health and healing for thousands of years, but you may have heard that detoxes do not work, are unpleasant or dangerous. This educational webinar will help take the mystery out of detoxification, so you can stop wondering and start clearing!

Faculty Feature | David Duizer

“In my Continuing Education course, Understanding Lab Diagnostics in Clinical Practice, my focus is on preparedness and organization. If the required information is close and easy to access, client care will be improved.”

We asked David what he loves about IHN and teaching his course:

“I enjoy knowing that students will take the information and apply it clinically to support their client's wellbeing almost immediately. Improving public health and wellness is an important goal of mine and hearing about how students will apply the information to enhance the health and wellness of their clients brings me joy.

What I love about IHN is that the students are actively engaged in their courses and excited about supporting their client's nutrition goals. They are a driven group.”

Published Research Findings Are Misleading

Question the science. A relevant 2010 Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) article (5 minute read) by Kenneth A. Myers illustrates the reason with, "Cigarette Smoking: An Underused Tool In High-Performance Endurance Training." This seeming parody shows how review articles have the potential to be misleading. It gives pause to reflect on learning where a gap in "your science vs my science" can come from. The paper makes it clear how selectively chosen research can give "dangerously flawed conclusions". IHN's Advanced Nutrition Research course teaches discernment and sets opposing scientific data on the table for critical thought and discussion.

Abstract in CMAJ: "The review paper is a staple of medical literature and, when well executed by an expert in the field, can provide a summary of the literature that generates useful recommendations and new conceptualizations of a topic. However, if research results are selectively chosen, a review has the potential to create a convincing argument for a faulty hypothesis. Improper correlation or extrapolation of data can result in dangerously flawed conclusions. The following paper seeks to illustrate this point, using existing research to argue the hypothesis that cigarette smoking enhances endurance performance and should be incorporated into high-level training programs."

This popular fish is native to tributaries in the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The first salmon were thought to be caught over 9000 years using dip nets, as the salmon returned from the sea to spawn. Hailed for its great nutritional profile, salmon contains healthy protein and fat, B, D, and E vitamins, selenium, zinc, and potassium. Quality always counts, and salmon is no exception. Compared to farmed salmon, wild-caught salmon offers a more balanced omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, while also having a higher mineral content.
