Can Mindfulness and Myofascial
 Release (MFR) Reduce Pain?
 -

The short answer is yes, Mindfulness and Myofascial Release (MFR) can reduce pain, and sometimes significantly. Consider your fascia as a netting that connects your entire body.  Over time, or due to certain medical or physical conditions, poor posture, physical or emotional trauma your fascia can tighten creating chronic pain and discomfort.

When left untreated, the compounding effect of time, tissue adaptation, emotional stress or ineffective treatments create even more tightness, limited mobility and pain.

Our Western medicine may view us as a physical, mechanistic body with chemistry, physics and biology dissecting us into smaller and smaller pieces, but in reality there is more to us than simple organic compound.

We all know and feel that our mental, emotional states can effect our physical body and well- being or create "knots in the stomach" or tension headaches. It is also acknowledged that a state of health is a balance of physical, emotional and mental well-being.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. "...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

Myofascial Release approach recognizes that we are not only our physical body, but also our feelings, emotions, sensations, memories, thinking patterns, beliefs. In order to help someone who comes to us with a chronic physical pain or limitation, it is crucial to address, treat and heal all aspects of our being.

Mindfulness could be defined as a quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. During Myofascial Release treatment it is crucial to encourage a person who is treated to focus one's mental awareness on the present moment without active process of thinking. It is vital to keep the awareness being engaged on a feeling sense and emotional intelligence of the body.

Allowing and accepting body's sensations, feeling fully can make one aware of their own holding patterns that many times are a stumbling block toward healing and pain free lifestyle. Gentle and supportive therapeutic environment and guidance help one to reconnect with their own body where true healing possibility reside.
