First, the big news. In case you missed our initial announcement, last week we shared plans to reopen Mt. San Angelo for in-person residencies starting in July of 2021. Thank you to all who have reached out with your enthusiasm and support. Sheila and Dana are busy bees responding to and preempting your questions about specific circumstances. More information about applications is below.

Tomorrow, in the spirit of election season and as another way to bring Fellows together, the Fellows Council is hosting a Zoom watch party for Marching Band, a documentary on civic engagement with ties to both Virginia and France.
- Of course, you're invited to our thirteenth Fireplace Series event. Read about the next three Fellows who will join us to share their work, and RSVP for an event reminder.
- On the heels of recent gatherings, we share a resounding applause of a recap for Fireplace Series 12, and we offer our thanks (and photos!) following last weekend's beautiful Fall Volunteer Day at Mt. San Angelo.
In the next newsletter, look for news of our annual VCCA France meeting, which will take place virtually this year.
As we wrap up October, please remember that Fellows Council nominations are due this month. We're also seeking more music from composers for our November playlist and beyond. Online applications opened last week for Mt. San Angelo residencies to be scheduled from July 1 – September 30, 2021. The deadline to apply is January 15. Scheduling notification will go out by March 31.
Those whose 2020 residencies or applications were affected by our temporary closure due to the pandemic will be asked to complete an Availability Update Form; VCCA’s artist services is sending that link to those affected. Visit our website for answers to frequently asked questions.

"My first book came out on September 1st. The book explores family estrangement, resilience, the ecstatic, and the erotic. I did a fun online book launch that incorporated music and visual art, but, like everyone else releasing a book now, I am really feeling the isolation of the pandemic and wishing I could connect with audiences in bookstores and in person. A small thing in this very big thing we are all going through." |

Fellows Council Watch Party: "Marching Band" |

Lucky number 13 in our Fireplace Series will take place two days before Halloween and will feature not two, but three VCCA Fellows!
Visual artist Karen Bondarchuk, whose work often features crows and skeletons, will discuss recent and current work called "Bred in the Bone" and "Lost and Found." We'll also hear from composer, author, and filmmaker Jack Curtis Dubowsky. His book Easy Listening and Film Scoring: 1948-1978 is forthcoming from Routledge; his ensemble's last show performed before lockdown was FW Murnau’s Nosferatu. Writer Lenore Hart is the author of various contemporary and historical novels as well as series editor of The Night Bazaar fantastic fiction anthologies, which has included the work of several Fellows; Hart will read from The Night Bazaar Venice, a collection set in another time of plague (1348 Italy) and released, with some difficulty, amidst the pandemic.
This trio will be hosted by visual artist and Fellows Council member Amie Oliver. Tune in Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Fellows Council Nominations Due October 31 |
We're accepting nominations for new members of the Fellows Council who will actively participate in supporting the vision and objectives of VCCA. Results of will be announced in December, and new members will begin their terms on January 1, 2021. |

Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants |
Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants provide up to $5,000 for unexpected medical, dental, and mental health emergencies. Visual and media artists currently residing in the United States or U.S. territories who have limited resources are eligible to apply by October 26, 2020.
