....In 1905, a group of four business men met in Chicago and decided to keep meeting about business concerns and as they did this they went from one business to the next, thus adopting the name Rotary.
.....By 1920, the business men of Sterling decided to start a club with the first President being Dr. Naugle. Today, there are over 35,000 clubs representing 200 countries with 1.2 million members known as Rotarians. Women were allowed into the organization in 1989.
.....The Sterling club is part of District 5440 which encompasses Northern Colorado, Western Nebraska, Eastern Idaho and Wyoming. Their club number is 1118 and there are 53 clubs in this district.
.....The Sterling club is a part of a new and thriving organization providing service to others, promoting integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through our fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.
..... Rotary connects the world as a Global network of friends, leaders and problem solvers. These people of action reach their goals through the Rotary Club motto of "Service Above Self."
.....Over the years, Rotary sees a world where people unite and take action to create lasting changes across the globe, in their communities, and in their selves. They strive to "Fight Diseases, Promote Peace, Grow Local Economies, Provide clean water, Save mothers and children, and Support Education."
.....Starting in 1985, one of Rotary's ongoing Big Global Projects is the Eradication of Polio. And with the CDC and WHO, they only have two countries with the wild virus that affects the nervous system and causes paralysis. Those two countries are Pakistan and Afghanistan.
.....One of their members has participated in three National Immunization Days, India and two in Mexico, and describes it as an "unbelievable experience." On Oct. 24, they will be participating in the WORLD POLIO DAY and would like their community to be a part of it!
.....Locally, they strive to give scholarships, send youth to leadership camps, participate in Local service projects and partner with the Elks in providing dictionaries to third graders.
