Through a very generous donation, our national partners at Jewish Federations of Canada – United Israel Appeal (JFC-UIA) provided Calgary Jewish Federation with 75,000 medical masks and several cases of hand sanitizer to be distributed within our community's agencies. We are very pleased to have delivered most of the items, and we thank our community partners for continuing to operate in ways that exceed requirements. Jewish Calgary is so fortunate to have amazing agencies focused on keeping our children, seniors, and other participants safe, while continuing to provide meaningful and caring programs and services. Todah Rabah!
In addition to distributing 225 Chanukah at Home bags last Sunday, PJ Library® is continuing to celebrate Chanukah at Home on Zoom with two programs. On Sunday, December 13 at 10:00am join Katie Baker and Temple B'nai Tikvah's Rabbi Mark Glickman for a morning of Chanukah Stories and Songs, and on Tuesday, December 15 at 5:30pm join us for a Sufganiyot Workshop with Beth Tzedec Congregation and Sara Brodsky. Please email Kathie for the Zoom links for these fun and festive programs!
Last night, hundreds of chanukiyout were lit simultaneously in homes in Calgary, and beyond during the 32nd Annual Calgary Community Menorah Lighting. This virtual celebration also included the kindling of the 18 foot Chanukah menorah at Heritage Park, plus live entertainment and greetings from Mayor Nenshi, Premier Kenney, and Minister Aheer. Kol Hakavod to Chabad Lubavitch of Alberta for this wonderful holiday celebration!
On behalf of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women, and the Alberta Government, Minister Leela Sharon Aheer, would like to extend her best wishes for a happy Chanukah to our Jewish community, as we all celebrate a little differently this year. View her special message.
Shabbat Shalom!
