Happy November! This is the month that we fall back to capture more sunlight each day. At Habitat CFC, we continue to move ahead with building more homes for our future homeowner families. On November 13th, we will hold a double dedication for two of our families. We are so happy for Yalitza and her children as well as for Vanessa, Ramon and their children. Both families took the steps necessary to secure affordable home ownership for their families. We are currently seeking more families to become Habitat CFC homeowners. Please contact our office for more information.

We are excited about our upcoming events. Our Women Build Meet-Up will take place on November 18th at Brewport in Bridgeport, CT. You are invited to join us from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn more about the program. We are always seeking volunteers like yourself to help us build more homes in Coastal Fairfield County.

We recently held a Family Build Day. It was wonderful to have parents and their children twelve years old and over volunteer in our warehouse where we prepare most of the materials needed for Habitat CFC homes. We also had other youth groups, in addition to future homeowners join this intergenerational project of giving back.

We have so much to be thankful for at Habitat CFC. This is the month where so many of our families express giving thanks by gathering with family and friends to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

We are thankful for all of you for taking the time to stay updated on the work that we are doing at Habitat CFC. Watch for more information on an exciting way you can help us double our year-end campaign. The Wadsworth Family Foundation will be matching all donations up to $100,000 until the end of the year and I hope you can participate! Every donor and volunteer makes a difference in the lives of Habitat families. We don’t just build homes, we build families.

Our 1st Annual Family Build Day at Habitat CFC!
Youth volunteers, parents, and Habitat CFC future homeowners gathered for a Family Build Day on Saturday October 30th. This project brought together volunteers from Youth United, Fairfield Prep, Build-On Bridgeport, and our Habitat CFC future homeowners.

One group of volunteers ages 12-15 worked with their parents on building four bookcases to be given to our future homeowner families on the day of their home dedication. The older youth volunteers and their parents painted siding at our warehouse while others painted primer at Granfield Avenue. It was a great way for youth volunteers and Habitat CFC homeowners to come together to work towards a common goal. It was also a great sight to see parents and kids working alongside each other and sharing in a service project like this.

Keep an eye out for emails about future volunteer opportunities for you and your family!

Volunteer Spotlight: Amy Nagy
Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, Amy Nagy lives in Fairfield with her husband, 16-year-old daughter, and their dog Shelby. Amy has worked as a freelancer in the video and TV production field since the 1990s. She does everything, including production coordinating, grip work, camera work, and more.

Amy got involved at Habitat CFC through her friend Kristin Pereira and the Women Build Committee. Amy and Kristin have been friends for over 15 years and have children around the same age. Kristin knew that Amy had valuable skills, talents, and that her values aligned with the mission of Habitat. “Once you are there you realize the mission of Habitat CFC is for safe and affordable housing that shouldn’t be exclusive to some and not others.”

Amy started by assisting with the planning and execution of the Women Build events Aitoro Gourmet Tasting and She Nailed It. “There is a lot of planning involved in these events and the skill set of the Women Build volunteers is astounding. It is exciting to be a part of when everyone knows what do to and how to do it.” Amy has also participated on the Habitat CFC build sites as a construction volunteer.

Amy’s most memorable event was She Nailed It. “When the families come up and speak about their history, you realize why you are there. When you get to hear the family express their gratitude, you more fully understand the scope of the Habitat mission. When you see a single mother that has worked so hard and accomplished so much, you understand that you are a part of the greatest side of humanity."

When asked what her message would be to anyone thinking about volunteering with Habitat CFC she says, “Don’t be afraid because you think you aren’t experienced enough or not helpful, everyone is helpful! Whether it is doing the physical work or work behind the scenes, everyone can contribute. The skills you learn will make you proud and astound you that you can do it. Always remember you are a part of a bigger picture….one nail at a time.”

Amy, thank you for everything you do for our Habitat families!
