Crow Island Update
April 19th, 2021

Dear Winnetka Families,

We greatly look forward to seeing all of our students for an extended day this week and we appreciate your partnership in ensuring we can maximize our instructional time with students.  Please help us each day by
  • Making sure you have certified your child on Crisis Go before 8 AM
  • Sending your child to school with a nut restricted lunch
  • Sending your child to school with 2 filled water bottles and several masks
  • Obeying all of our traffic patterns - please remember that cell phone usage is prohibited on school grounds.
We also look forward to recognizing Earth Week and wanted to bring your attention to the Winnetka Earth Day Challenge. In support of Earth Week and environmental sustainability, classrooms, community organizations and families are invited to participate in the The Winnetka Earth Day Challenge from April 16-30. The Winnetka Earth Day Challenge is a community-wide competition for people of all ages who live, work, worship, or attend school in Winnetka, and their friends. Participants challenge themselves to try new environmentally-friendly behaviors and report their progress daily. In addition to learning how to reduce your carbon footprint, you have a chance to win cash for the non-profit organization of your choice! To learn more, please go to winnetkaearthday.org

Finally, 4th grade parents will be receiving parent feedback forms soon from Betty Weir and Louis Kotvis at Skokie to help inform their placements for next year.

We look forward to a wonderful week!

Sincerely,
Beth Carmody, Principal, Hubbard Woods School
Julie Pfeffer and Larry Jouynt, Principal, Crow Island School
Joshua Swanner, Principal, Greeley School

Crow Island News
Dear Crow Island Families,

As shared above, we are so excited to welcome our students back to an extended day of school and offer them in person related arts experiences.  We know this change will be a transition and may pose a challenge for some.  Please be sure to reach out to your child's teacher or one of us should your child need any extra support during this time.  Also, please feel free to consult the Crow Island Spring 2021 School Guide to help answer any questions you may have.

Also, if you have not had a chance to do so yet, please complete the Parent Reflection Form that helps guide us in our placement process.  Please complete this form by Friday April 30th.  Also, please note that current 4th graders will receive information about parent input for 5th grade from Skokie School in the coming weeks.

Here's to a wonderful "first" week!

Sincerely,
Larry and Julie

Information for Parents Regarding the Launch of our Modified Full Day on April 19
We are eager to transition to a longer day for students in grades 1 through 6. This change brings new routines, so we hope these reminders are helpful to your family as you prepare for Monday.
  • Crisis Go Compliance:
Please be sure to complete Crisis Go daily, no later than 8:00 a.m.
  • Pick up and drop off:
For families with children attending multiple schools, the District is aware of the need to be flexible on arrival time. You are welcome to drop your child(ren) off within the following windows to start school on time:
  • 8:20 a.m. - 8:35 a.m. - Crow Island, Greeley, & Hubbard Woods
  • 8:15 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. - Skokie & Washburne
  • Before-school access to buildings and grounds:
Please note that our buildings are not open prior to 8:20 a.m. and supervision will not be provided to students who arrive early.  Also, we ask that students refrain from gathering on the playgrounds before and after school. Due to COVID-19 precautions, playground use is limited to recess.
  • Nut-Restricted Lunch:
Lunch may be held in classrooms and we have implemented new guidance to support the safety of all students. Please note that any food item that lists nuts as an ingredient and all nut butters are prohibited.
  • Supplies Needed:
    • Face Masks - Please have your child bring 2-3 face masks to school each day.
    • Water Bottles - Students should bring two full water bottles to school.  It is preferable to have a reusable water bottle with a straw due to masks.

2021-2022 Online Registration for New and Returning Students Begins April 12
Registration information for next year will be sent via regular mail and email on Monday, April 12. Look for these materials in your mailbox and inbox. Please register early! Parents are asked to complete registration at their earliest convenience to help inform interest and need for optional services and programs for the 2021-2022 school year, such as bus transportation and the Right at School after-school care program.

This year families will not be charged for school activity fees. The School Board voted at its meeting on March 23, 2021, to approve a one-year moratorium on collecting activity fees for the upcoming school year.

Adventures in Learning 2021
REGISTRATION OPEN FOR WINNETKA RESIDENTS
Program Dates:  June 14, 2021 - July 16, 2021

Winnetka Public Schools Adventures in Learning Program will welcome students back to in-person summer classes! The structure of the program has been modified as we continue to navigate the impact of COVID--19 and  prioritize the health and safety of our campers, families and staff.  The in-person program options being offered adhere to the District's current mitigation plan and successful student cohort and pod framework.

General Program Update: For campers enrolling in the general program (grades 2-8)
This year's general program has been structured to prioritize the health and safety of our campers and staff and offer the variety of fun, rich and creative class experiences that Adventure campers look forward to! It was with that in mind that this year's 5-week session was originally separated into a 3-week and 2-week session of class pods. However, based on enrollment considerations, the general program will consist of one 5-week session with 1 class pod instead of 2 that had been planned. If you have already registered for the general program, you will be receiving an email confirmation of the
Pod assigned by Monday, April 12. If you have any questions please contact the District office at 847-446-9400 or via email at [email protected]
