Weekly News Update

Cathedral_ChoralAcademySinger_tn.jpg

August 29, 2021

We are so pleased that choral worship returns to St. John’s Cathedral this Fall, beginning with the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels on October 3. Starting with our masked and fully-vaccinated staff musicians, we will begin the choral season with plans for a musically robust liturgical year.

The chanted Office of Compline returns on first Sundays of every month, October through May, at 8.00pm. These beautifully meditative candlelit services are some of the oldest in our tradition. Everyone is welcome to attend the service and partake in delicious food and drink at the social hour following the service.

Also, we have been given permission from the diocese to restart our in-person Cathedral Choral Academy for children, and now is the time for families to enroll their children! This fully-funded music education program offers 100% scholarships to every student, and is open to all families, regardless of musical ability or religious affiliation. Please contact Mr. Stephen Salts [email protected] for information.

Vestry On-Call

This Sunday's Vestry Person On-Call

Kelly Coyne (2023)

Vestry members are partners with clergy, encouraging the growth of community and the establishment of common ground in the spiritual life of the congregation. Parishioners are always welcome to speak with these individuals on Sunday morning; they assist in making sure our questions, comments, or concerns are heard.

Fall Services Schedule

The end of our summer season is approaching, that means a return to two services on

October 3rd, 2021: Mass at 8:00am (Spoken) and Mass at 10:00am (with choir, organ, and familiar festivity) followed by Coffee Hour. It has not been decided whether to hold our 8:00am service outdoors or indoors. We would value all thoughts from members of the congregation about this arrangement which can be submitted to the church office via email, phone or traditional letter

Lectio Divina

with Mo. Lyn Crow

August 29, 2021 at 10:30am

There are many different types of bible study each with its own blessing. Lectio Divina is a scripture study that helps us to listen to what God might be saying to us personally in a particular passage. The African Bible Study method is a form of Lectio introduced by the African Delegation to Lambeth Conference in 1998. Come join us as Mo. Lyn helps us explore this popular study method. We will meet on August 22 and 29 at 10:30 am.

Since this class invites participants to share personal experiences, it will not be recorded. Access is restricted to participants in the St. John's community FB group, or in person.
