LOA's Roanoke area Diners Clubs held Christmas celebrations. Morningside Manor participants are able to meet in person so they received a warm meal, Christmas goodies and a visit from Santa. The folks at Loudon Ave. got special goodies, turkeys and a boxed lunch from Santa, drive thru style!
LOA's Fincastle Diners Club and Daleville Lunch and Learn group received special Christmas. Drive thru style, they received an LOA Christmas bag of goodies, a frozen turkey, and a food box from Feeding Southwest Virginia. There was music, a door prize game and lots of smiles!
Senior Pen Pals
LOA is collaborating with Botetourt County Library to start an old-fashioned letter writing program for the benefit of our seniors in Botetourt who are more isolated during this crisis. The Friends of the Library put together the packets of stationery, including a stamp, to be given to the seniors and the volunteers for their first correspondence. Interested seniors or volunteers can sign up at all the local libraries.
Medicare Savings
LOA hosted a small, but special reception for its VICAP volunteers to give thanks to them for all their efforts, including phone, Zoom and in-person counseling sessions, for seniors in our area with their Part D Medicare enrollment. The LOA is fortunate to have a great group of dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers!
Medicare Part D enrollment occurred October 15 - December 7, 2020. Though less people were seeking assistance from LOA's trained, volunteer counselors we were still able to save residents $132,416! This is a significant achievement by our staff and volunteers and a great gift to Virginia's Fifth Planning District!
Be a Santa to a Senior
Earl is in our Diner's Club program and is one of the many seniors that benefited from Home Instead's BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR program. With a twinkle in his eye, he told us he is going to wait until Christmas morning to open his gift!!! Many thanks to everyone who helped get gifts for seniors like Earl!
