Institutional Relations Newsletter
September 2020
Dear partners and colleagues,

In September, we hosted our first Study Abroad Week which included 40+ virtual events! Over 550 students attended and we received 1,100+ event registrations (some students attended more than one session). Thanks to partners who shared event info with your students, helping to make the week a success!

As you may know, we published spring 2021 FAQs to address the many questions related to applying, our refund policy, and general COVID planning for next semester. We hope this info helps in advising your students and talking with families over the next few weeks. Of course, COVID planning work continues and we'll share more program-specific protocols with partners and students in October.

This September newsletter highlights our Coffee with Colleagues director meetings, an update on rankings, our music course offerings, and a student Global Ambassador blog post. We hope you continue to find the information in these newsletters helpful. As always, please be in touch if we can help with anything!

Looking forward,
-Brock

REMINDER:
October 1st Application Deadline
The 2021 U.S. News and World Report Rankings were published earlier this month. We are more than excited to see Syracuse University has moved up to #7 in Best Study Abroad Programs (up from #11 last year).

As both a major research university and a study abroad provider, we recognize this ranking is the result of hard work by, not only our team, but also our partner school staff and faculty and the various Syracuse University campus departments who support our work. Please join us in celebrating!

Truly Exploring Central Europe
Caroline Simon, from Colgate University, studied on the Central Europe program in fall 2019. Below, is an excerpt from her recent blog post about her experience:

"I was fortunate enough to participate in Syracuse Abroad’s Exploring Central Europe semester program. The focus of this program was history, memory, and identity. We studied Central Europe through these lenses, looking at its early history through now, and with a special focus on the Holocaust and the Soviet regime.

We began our program with the 2-week Signature Seminar traveling course, visiting Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava, and Prague. This Signature Seminar was an incredible learning experience: in lieu of a classroom, we used museums, monuments, memorials, tours, and true immersion to learn about each place’s history and culture.

As a non-Syracuse student, I was initially nervous about joining a group of mostly Syracuse classmates; however, I found that before even before arriving at our destination (and after 18 hours and 3 airports), I felt like I had known my new friends for months!"
