Dear Residents -

The Town will be hosting a blood drive next Thursday, April 22nd. If you have not yet made an appointment, please consider doing so today. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, there has been severe blood shortages in New York and across the country. Just think, one hour of your time can mean a lifetime for someone else.

With spring here, Orangetown Parks and Recreation is offering many great programs, such as teaching children how to ride a bike, fishing, family movie nights, sports camp, arts and crafts, and more - there is something for everyone (adults included) - so check it out and sign up for something fun to do.

Thanks to the help of County Legislator James Foley, the Mobile COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic will be at Town Hall on Wednesday, April 28. Up to 100 pre-registered individuals can be vaccinated at this event. It is by appointment only and you must be able to return on May 19th for the second shot. Please click here to register.

Just a reminder that Orangetown is a participant in the Rockland Community Power (RCP), a collaborative municipal energy program. New York State promotes CCA in order to foster the growth of lower costs, clean energy and stronger consumer protection. The town program ensures that there are no exit fees and protects you from price increases with a guaranteed rate for the life of the program. So please check out our webpage and register today.

The weatherman promises nice weather for the weekend, get out and enjoy it.

Regards,
Teresa M. Kenny

April Is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Take Action
- Remind your friends and family: If you’re in the driver’s seat, it’s the only thing you should be doing. No distractions.
- If your driver is texting or otherwise distracted, tell them to stop and focus on the road.
- Ask your friends to join you in pledging not to drive distracted. You could save a life.

Share your pledge on social media to spread the word — #JustDrive.
Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on our roads. While drivers texting behind the wheel tops what seems like an endless list of distractions, other risky actions include talking — whether it be on the phone or to others in the car, setting your navigation, adjusting what you’re listening to, drinking coffee, applying makeup, and more. By driving distracted, you’re robbing yourself of seconds that you may need to avoid a close call or deadly crash.

In 2019, distracted driving killed 3,142 people – a 10% increase from 2018. Young drivers seem more prone to using their phones while driving. According to NHTSA research from 2017, drivers 16 to 24 years old have been observed using handheld electronic devices while driving at higher rates than older drivers have since 2007. But make no mistake: It isn’t just young people who are driving distracted, as drivers in other age groups don’t lag far behind.
