A Note from Ellen
Little one, for you Jesus Christ came into the world:
for you he lived and showed God’s love;
for you he suffered the darkness of Calvary
and cried at the last, “It is accomplished”;
for you he triumphed over death and rose in newness of life;
for you he ascended to reign at God’s right hand.
All this he did for you, little one,
though you do not know it yet.
And so the word of Scripture is fulfilled:
“We love because God loved us first.”
(Book of Common Order, Church of Scotland)

Dear Friends,

What a great day Sunday was! Thank you to all who made it so special.

We are looking forward to more special Sundays in the weeks ahead, including a baptism this Sunday, welcoming new members in the morning on October 24, celebrating our next chapter together with my installation in the afternoon on October 24, and observing All Saints Day and asking God’s blessing on Lynne in her new call on October 31.

In each of these moments, we will hear reminders of God’s love for us, love that is constant, love that comes to us before we can ever imagine loving God in return. This love is the center of the baptism blessing above, the same one I mentioned in my sermon on Sunday.

We are each the beloved little one named in the blessing. May that love guide us on special days and every day, as we share that love with God’s world in Christ’s name.

Grace and peace,
Ellen

Market for Mission Tally and Thank You!
The tally of the Church Street Market for Mission currently stands at $12,342.00 with some additional funds yet to be added that will bring the total even higher. It includes the phenomenal success of the youth’s ‘donation’ sale of baked goods. Major expenses of the sale including the marketing banners, ad placements and supplies were donated so as not to detract from the amount raised for Haiti. Thank you to everyone who donated in this way, including lunches for the work force the week of sale prep. And to the congregation, thank you to everyone who donated items!! Many of you volunteered during the months ahead of the sale and came in and worked the week of for the day or even just an hour. It was all appreciated so much. Kay Wall took on prepping the art by herself. The joyful chaos of checkout was managed by the expert preparation of Kathy Pilkington with an able Susan Brooks assist. Gold stars to all of you check out folks! One of the goals of the sale was to bring our own church family closer together and we certainly feel that happened! Most importantly, Friends Empowering Haiti will be glad for the proceeds to assist in providing the people of Bayonnais with health care, nutrition, and support for their community based initiatives. Finally, a special thank you to our small core team that worked so hard every week for a number of months: Judy Davison, Sallie Dotger, Harriett Phillips, Susan Smith and Pat Verner. " I thank my God for every reminder of you. In every prayer of mine for you all, I have always made requests with joy, due to your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now.” Phillipians 1:3-5
