FLAS Information Sessions

Information sessions for the the Summer 2022 and Academic Year 2022-2023 FLAS competitions will be held throughout November and early December:

Friday, November 12, 2021, 3-4 p.m.
Monday, November 15, 2021, 10-11 a.m.
Thursday, November 18, 2021, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Wednesday, December 1, 2021, 4-5 p.m.
Friday, December 3, 2021, 12-1 p.m.

Each session includes a presentation on the fellowship and application process and an opportunity to ask questions. Learn more and register for a session here.

Prologued Podcast, Season 2:
The Global War on Drugs

Origins: Current Events in Historical Perspective is thrilled to announce the release of its second season of Prologued, a serial-style history podcast that offers in-depth discussions of the historical roots of the world today--a past that has often been lost, ignored, or misconstrued.

Season 2 examines The Global War on Drugs and asks: When and where did the War on Drugs really begin? This season explores how a century of drug wars fought around the world informs today's conversations about marijuana use, abuse, and legalization. Episodes 1 and 2 are streaming now, with new episodes released on Tuesdays in November.

Fall 2021 Issue: Textos Híbridos

Textos Híbridos: Revista de Estudios sobre Crónica y Periodismo Narrativo is proud to announce its latest issue, Volume 8 Number 2.

Textos Híbridos is a peer-reviewed journal that specializes in the study of the relationship between journalism and literature as represented by genres such as the chronicle, literary or narrative journalism and others in those geocultural areas represented by the terms “Hispanic,” “Latin American,” “Lusophone,” and “Latinx”.

"Continuing the Conversation:
Rethinking Haiti"

Join our partners at Union Institute and University's Institute for Social Justice for a second conversation on Haiti. Dr. Diane Allerdyce and Dr. Emery François continue the discussion from their previous webinar "Rethinking Haiti: Past, Present, and Future Promise" (view a recording here).

Dr. Allerdyce has worked on community development in Haiti for many years and has created learning opportunities for Haitian immigrants in the U.S. Dr. Francois grew up in Haiti and her Union Ph.D. dissertation was a powerful memoir about her life growing up in her homeland.

CAPES-PrInt Workshop with
Brazilian Universities

On November 17-18, from 11am to 1pm, the Brazil Gateway and CLAS will host two virtual workshops for graduate students and faculty interested in pursuing research projects with Brazilian universities.

The workshops will showcase the CAPES-PrInt program, which supports graduate student and faculty exchanges financed by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel of the Brazilian Ministry of Education. CAPES-PrInt offers funding for graduate students, faculty mobility opportunities and serves as a network to establish research connections.
