State of Arizona Awards Grants to Arts Learning Programs | This month the Arizona Commission on the Arts, an agency of the State of Arizona, announced the recipients of its latest round of grants in support of arts learning programs throughout the state. Arizona Schools Invited to Register for Poetry Out Loud | |
Each year Poetry Out Loud invites the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word, and theater into language arts classes across the country. Through Poetry Out Loud, students can master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about their literary heritage.
This year, The University of Arizona Poetry Center will oversee Poetry Out Loud in Arizona, taking over statewide administration duties from the Arizona Commission on the Arts!

Emergency Relief for Nonprofit Arts Organizations | |
In August 2021, Governor Doug Ducey allocated $2 million to support arts and culture organizations enduring the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawn from federal relief delivered to the state from the American Rescue Plan Act and allocated to the Arts Commission through the state managed Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, these funds arrive at a crucial moment for the sector. The Arizona Commission on the Arts is working now to deliver these funds to eligible nonprofit arts organizations as swiftly as possible. | |
Meet the members of the 2022-2023 AZ Youth Arts Council! The AZ Youth Arts Council advises the Arts Commission on grant programs and initiatives that directly affect young people. As they do so, they will review issues related to arts and culture programs and services for young people and learn about policy related to equal access to the arts for all young people in Arizona.
The year's council members represent communities throughout the state, from Flagstaff to Nogales, Chinle to Yuma!

President Biden Announces Intent to Nominate Chairs of National Endowments for the Humanities and Arts | The White House | President Joe Biden announced this month his intent to nominate Shelly Lowe as Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson as Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). | | | |
Both Shelly Lowe and Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson have ties to Arizona. Lowe is a citizen of the Navajo Nation and grew up on the Navajo Reservation in Ganado, Arizona, while Dr. Jackson is a tenured Institute Professor in the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts (HIDA) at Arizona State University! | |
Arizona Arts Organizations Among Recipients of Tourism Recovery Grants | Arizona Office of Tourism awarded will more than $9.4 million to 43 businesses and organizations across the state this month. The Visit Arizona Initiative Partnership grant funding supports the relaunch or expansion of a wide variety of festivals, arts and culture, and community events statewide. | |
Arizona Poet Natalie Diaz Joins The Big Read | The National Endowment for the Arts Big Read will feature 15 titles for 2022–2023 programming, with books that represent a diverse range of contemporary themes, voices, and perspectives. Joining the selection this year is the 2021 Pulitzer Prize winning poetry collection "Postcolonial Love Poem," by Arizona-based poet Natalie Diaz. The Big Read supports community reading programs held around the country. | |

Lifelong Arts Engagement Grant | Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants support projects that foster meaningful arts learning experiences in community settings for adult learners of any age. Projects can include, but are not limited to, using creative expression to improve quality of life for older adults (Creative Aging), intergenerational projects, and/or providing sequential hands on learning in, through, or about the arts for adult learners. | |
Youth Arts Engagement Grant | Youth Arts Engagement Grants support programs focused on young people ages 24 and under that occur outside of traditional school hours, and which provide creative expression in safe and nurturing environments, are rooted in youth voices, narratives and perspectives, and utilize the assets of the community being served. | |
Artist Opportunity Grants support Arizona artists as they take advantage of specific, unique opportunities that have the potential to significantly impact their professional growth. As this grant is available to artists working in all disciplines and at any stage in their career, a wide array of opportunities could be considered eligible. | |
Association of Performing Arts Professionals | ArtsForward | Made possible with generous support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Association of Performing Arts Professionals’s ArtsForward program will support the presenting and touring field’s safe, vibrant, and equitable reopening and recovery as presenters, artists and audiences reconnect, tours resume, and venues reopen. | |
Creative Forces Community Engagement Grant | The Creative Forces Community Engagement Grant is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in partnership with Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA). This grant program aims to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life for military service members and veterans exposed to trauma as well as their families and caregivers through experiences of art or art making. | |
Communities for Immunity Grants to Museums and Libraries | Communities for Immunity invites museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions to submit proposals for funding efforts that support vaccine confidence where it matters most―at the local level. Funding awards will be provided to museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions to leverage their deep relationships with local communities to improve vaccine confidence. | |
