Weekly news & updates

April 16, 2021
Dear SCBA Parents:

------What a wonderful week this has been for our school and scholars! I pray this week during the Easter season has been full of love and beauty in many ways for you. Our 3rd - 8th grade scholars have done an excellent job with taking the Iowa Assessments this week. They started the week off with well wishes from their younger scholar friends! While only the 3rd - 8th grade scholars are testing, all our scholars are praying for everyone to do their best work. Any scholars who may have missed a test this week will take the test next week. We are excited to see our scholars show how much they have learned over the past TWO years - as scholars didn’t take the Iowa Assessments last year due to COVID-19.

------As I have shared with you throughout the year, our school has been working on a strategic plan this entire year. The goals are set and we are finalizing things this spring. The group discussed and worked hard on looking at our Mission Statement.

SCBA Mission Statement:
Partnering with parents in their role as primary educators, Saint Charles Borromeo Academy extends the mission of the Church in forming true disciples of Jesus Christ. Through a Catholic Classic Liberal Arts education, centered on Christ, we provide an integrated approach fostering a love for truth, beauty, and goodness. We seek to instill a natural desire for wisdom and virtue in all students.

The committee also created belief and value statements for our school:

Belief /Value Statements:
  • St. Charles Borromeo Academy believes teachers and parents will guide the development of scholars to become independent and critical thinkers seeking truth, beauty, and goodness.
  • St. Charles Borromeo Academy believes in a Christ-centered environment, rooted in our Catholic faith, which welcomes all and inspires a generation of servant leaders.
  • St. Charles Borromeo Academy believes in the uniqueness of each scholar made in the image of, and orientated toward, God.
  • St. Charles Borromeo Academy values the support of our families and parish community to help guide our scholars to act with honesty, integrity, and charity.

------The committee identified five pillars to create goals for our school. The pillars are faith, academic excellence, facilities, financial sustainability and strengthened faith and parent engagement. Within each pillar, goals have been identified and action steps to reach the goals have been created! I am excited to share the plan with you as we finalize it over the next couple weeks.

------Spring is a busy time of the year, especially for our school. We have about 20 scholars who will be making their First Holy Communion on April 25, 2021. Our 8th graders are gearing up for graduation and moving on to high school. Please keep all our scholars, but especially our 2nd and 8th graders, in your prayers.

Enjoy your weekend.

She currently has three scholars in the building, Emerson is in our Pre-School room, Ian is in our Kindergarten room and Olliver is in our 2nd grade classroom. Mrs. Fleming comes to us with a great deal of experience and knowledge and we are excited to have her join our staff.
