RCAHD Sees Strong Demand for Testing

Last week, RCAHD was pleased to secure some additional testing resources from a very limited supply. The 300 test kits were delivered on Wednesday, and we distributed them to the community the following day. The region is experiencing an overwhelming demand for testing, which has been impacted by a statewide scarcity of available rapid test kits.

To help meet the demand for testing, RCAHD will hold two FREE Drive-Thru COVID Testing events this week. These are nasal PCR tests, no appointment necessary, while supplies last:

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1-5:00pm
Salem Civic Center

Thursday, Jan. 6, 3-5:00pm
Fincastle Baptist Church

Join us for a LIVE Town Hall Situation Update and Q&A with RCAHD Health Director Dr. Cynthia Morrow
Tuesday, Jan. 4, 7:00pm - 7:45pm

Tune in to find out the latest on local cases and hospitalizations, isolation guidance, testing and more.

Submit your questions in advance for Dr. Morrow to address LIVE during the event:  https://forms.gle/rFJWs9CpMYf7hEeG9

New CDC Guidelines for Isolation and Quarantine

By Cynthia Morrow, MD, MPH

The past two years have been a challenge for all of us, and even as we welcome a new year, the latest headlines reflect this stubbornly persistent pandemic. We continue to find ourselves in difficult times, as cases, hospitalizations, and even deaths rise locally, across Virginia, and around the world...

You may have heard that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated isolation and quarantine guidelines. What do these guidelines mean for you?

RCAHD COVID-19 Situation Update
01/03/22

RCAHD cases have increased significantly in recent weeks. Indoor gatherings, especially among mixed households that may not be vaccinated, increases your risk of exposure. Masking indoors is crucial. Increase ventilation and allow plenty of room for social distancing when removing a mask to eat or drink. Take into account your comfort level between personal risk and exposure, wear a mask indoors even if vaccinated- especially when gathering with elderly or frail loved ones- or move your celebrations outdoors.
