Saturday Workshops!

Saturday features 3 workshops: Opioid Update; EKG Workshop; and Suture Workshop. In addition, there is also a tract of informative sessions you can attend.

The Suture workshop is a unique hands-on experience to teach NP providers bedside applications of wound closure techniques. Participants will practice capturing specific stitching techniques on models under the guidance of experienced faculty. The hands-on sessions will be complemented by didactic lectures to improve the participants' knowledge of the indications, technical skills, and clinical integration of bedside suturing. The EKG workshop is an interactive four-hour course will focus on the diagnosis and management of adult patients with cardiac arrhythmias via an evidence-based approach. Principles of electrophysiology and interpretation pertinent to primary and acute care will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the following areas: SA and AV node dysfunction, supraventricular arrhythmias, ventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation and flutter, bundle branch and hemi-blocks, ST-T wave abnormalities, and common drug/electrolyte effects. There is no additional registration or charge to attend this workshop.

Following the Opioid Guidelines Update the participant should be able to:
Summarize new knowledge related to current guidelines for prescribing opioid therapies in non-cancer pain; Describe appropriate pain management for non-cancer patients in both the primary and acute care settings; Integrate improved communication methods and management strategies regarding use of opioid medications for non-cancer pain in their practice settings; State the statistics of drug use in Alabama compared to other states; Cite information regarding the current political environment in Alabama related to Controlled Prescribing; State the application process; current protocols and CME/renewal requirement for the QACSC and LPSP.
