All Saints' Day, Sunday, November 7th
Wassily Kandinsky, Allerheiligen (All Saints')
Join us for this high holy day when we celebrate the mystical communion of the living and dead and commend the saints who have gone before. The day will be marked with special music and the reading of the necrology--the names of those who have died--during the distribution of communion.

In addition, we will honor those who have died and been commended to God from St. David's since we last gathered in person for All Saints' Sunday with a special display in the Columbarium Chapel: Collin James Scott, Donald Cloward Deakyne, Susan Margaret Bardwell Quillin, Marcia Kristine Sonmor, Adam Emerth Hovis, Dale Ernest Lindquist, Nancy Margot Popp, and Paul James Zirbes.

We will hold services at both 8:00 and 9:30 AM. Masks are required and we ask that you leave space between yourselves and others if possible. The nursery will be available during the 9:30 service. Please note that the 9:30 service will continue to be Livestreamed on Facebook and uploaded to YouTube for those who wish to worship virtually.
Lord of heaven's reach,
of earth reborn;
you call us from starless graves.
to sing under infinite skies:
we praise your name.
for those who have walked this way
unheralded and unnumbered.
but known to you,
their beginning, their end,
their joy in life;
give us the same grace
to be unbound
and take the step of faith; through
Jesus Christ, the alpha
and omega. Amen.

God of evolving diversity, made known in seed and soil, and the wonder of animal worlds: free our hearts from the anxiety which knows only domination; open our being to learn from the life with which we share this earth; through Jesus Christ, the Lord of the harvest. Amen.

St. David’s Giving Campaign Update
St. David’s Giving Campaign Update
We are in the last week of our giving campaign and, again, Many Thanks to all who have submitted their pledges! We continue to make good progress on our campaign goals with participation (# pledges/households) at 55% and at 70% towards our monetary goal of $400,000.
The campaign will end this Sunday, November 7. If you have not yet pledged your gift for 2022, please do so before then. The final number at the end of the campaign will be used for next year’s budget planning. You may still send in your pledge after the campaign ends, of course, but getting it in within the campaign time frame helps a lot with planning for 2022.

Celebration – Please join the Giving Campaign Committee for Coffee Hour after this Sunday’s 9:30 worship service for treats and a short update on campaign results.
Campaign Goals
·      100% participation from all who received a giving packet.
·      Pledges totaling to $400,000 primarily to support additions to staff and to achieve a balanced budget.
·      Prayers for a successful campaign.

Thanks to all for your faithful support of St. David’s and your prayers for a successful giving campaign.

Mill City String Quartet Concert UPDATE
St. David's Sanctuary

The Mill City String Quartet concert has been MOVED to Tuesday, November 9th, at 7pm in the Sanctuary. There was an unexpected death of a dear friend and the funeral is October 30th. We appreciate your flexibility and compassion. The concert will be live streamed on the MCSQ Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. Thank you for your understanding in this difficult time.
You're invited to the first MCSQ concert of the 2021/2022 season! MCSQ desires to amplify the voices of people of culture in the classical music idiom. This concert features "Modes" by Dorothy Rudd Moore, Florence Price's "Five Folk Songs in Counterpoint" and Shelley Washington's "Middleground." We'll also be performing Sergei Prokofiev's String Quartet No. 2 in F Major.

If you are joining us in person, we request that guests be vaccinated, please wear a mask, and use social distancing. We will also be livestreaming this program, so you can watch from the comfort of your own home!
Volunteers Needed for St. David's Youth Ministries
As someone who has worked closely with our St. David youth over many years, I’ll be the first to say that we have the most amazing young people in our midst. Some of my deepest and most spiritually enriching relationships at church were born during my time in youth ministry. Please consider this opportunity… not only for what it will do to support our youth, but for what it might mean for your own faith journey. Prepare to be challenged, surprised, encouraged and most importantly… to plant the seeds for life long friendships.

We are looking to build a team of youth volunteers to support our new youth minister, Anna, and our High School and Middle School youth groups. Whether you are available once a month or weekly, we need you!  Our High School group meets on Sunday evenings (6:00-8:00) and our Middle School group on Wednesday evenings (6:45-8:15). Please email Anna with questions or interest/availability at [email protected].

Thank you for loving our children so well!

St. David's Book Club News
St. David’s Book Club will meet on Tuesday, 12/7 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm via Zoom. After a short 2022 planning meeting, we will be discussing Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson. The book was a New York Times best seller and New York Times Notable Book of the Year.

Moving forward and backward in time, Jacqueline Woodson's taut and powerful new novel uncovers the role that history and community have played in the experiences, decisions, and relationships of these families, and in the life of the new child.
As the book opens in 2001, it is the evening of sixteen-year-old Melody's coming of age ceremony in her grandparents' Brooklyn brownstone. Watched lovingly by her relatives and friends, making her entrance to the music of Prince, she wears a special custom-made dress. But the event is not without poignancy. Sixteen years earlier, that very dress was measured and sewn for a different wearer: Melody's mother, for her own ceremony-- a celebration that ultimately never took place.
Unfurling the history of Melody's family – reaching back to the Tulsa race massacre in 1921 -- to show how they all arrived at this moment, Woodson considers not just their ambitions and successes but also the costs, the tolls they've paid for striving to overcome expectations and escape the pull of history. As it explores sexual desire and identity, ambition, gentrification, education, class and status, and the life-altering facts of parenthood, Red at the Bone most strikingly looks at the ways in which young people must so often make long-lasting decisions about their lives--even before they have begun to figure out who they are and what they want to be.
                                                                                                                      ~ Amazon.com

Woodson’s writing is exquisite and tells a moving multi-generational story in just over 200 pages. Please join us for the last Book Club meeting of 2021!

ICA Update
Holiday Food Program
For over 20 years ICA has given away turkeys and all the fixings to over 800 families in our community. You are invited to help our neighbors in need this holiday season. Each $20 donation will provide a turkey & fixings to one local family. I hope you will consider participating in the Holiday Food Program this year. The turkey giveaway will be on November 20. You can easily donate in a couple different ways:

1. Stop by Cub Foods on 101 & 7 this Friday or Saturday or the following Friday or Saturday (11/12 or 11/13). Volunteers will be handing out turkey certificates, which will allow shoppers to donate $20 to provide a holiday meal to a family; or
2. Go online at www.icafoodshelf.org. From the menu, choose Donate, then choose Turkey Donation. Please complete the donation form, including the number of family meals you wish to support. Don’t forget to put in St. David’s as the organization to which you belong.
ICA Market and Resource Center at Gatewood Elementary
Did you see the great articles in the recent Sun Sailor about the official opening on October 27 of the new ICA Market and Resource Center at Gatewood Elementary School? This new collaboration between ICA Food Shelf and Hopkins schools brings food and additional resources to students and their families twice a week during the school year. ICA will source and deliver culturally specific fresh produce, dairy, proteins, grains and shelf stable foods. A multilingual team will provide additional support to families experiencing significant barriers to accessing food. By providing consistent, healthy food options, food insecurity can be eased which will help kids focus on school.
It’s an exciting and innovative partnership for all involved.

Give to the Max - November 18th
ICA is pleased to be participating in Give to the Max Day 2021. The early giving period began on November 1 and contributions made through November 18 will be eligible for matching funds to help our neighbors in need. If you would like to donate, go to online at www. icafoodshelf.org. From the menu, choose Donate, then choose Give to the Max Donations.

New Food Rescue Partner
In October, ICA started a new partnership with a local Lunds & Byerlys to rescue food. The food shelf is now receiving quality meats and bakery items from their Ridgedale location. Early feedback from clients is that they are enjoying the new items on the shelves.

Current Food Shelf Needs
The following items have been identified as specific needs this month:
* baking supplies
* coffee, tea
* kids’ snacks & beverages
* personal care products (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, adult diapers, baby wipes)
* paper products (tissues, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins)

Please bring items you would like to share to church on Sunday, November 21 or leave them in the ICA baskets located at the church entrances whenever it is convenient for you. The above are current need suggestions, but any donations are always welcome.

In this time of the coronavirus pandemic, the need to reach our most vulnerable parishioners has been great. Our 11 person Pastoral Care Team has stepped up to the plate and has been regularly calling around 24 St. David's members and families to share in remote fellowship, prayer, and conversation to determine if we, as a community, could help address any of their unmet needs. We are pleased to report that virtually all of these parishioners are doing well so far and have their basic needs met by their facilities and/or family. They are in good spirits and continue to remain resilient in the face of isolation and uncertainty.

If you find yourself in need of food or other resources, please contact:
Steve Johnson at: [email protected] or (952) 237-0031
or:
The Rev. Katherine Lewis at: [email protected] or (612) 747-5405

and we will assist you in finding solutions.
