White River Indie Film Festival 2023

kicking off with Secret Screening with filmmaker March 23

Full WRIF line-up and tickets/passes now available!

White River Indie Film Festival (WRIF) returns White River Junction, VT with our 18th annual film festival of new global and local cinema, filmmaker talkbacks, workshops and parties at JAM and the Briggs Opera House. You won't want to miss the SECRET SCREENING Thursday 3/23 with a brave filmmaker flying in to share her experiences making a transgressive film that's challenging the industry. Grab a bite and congratulate our Emerging Filmmaker Winners at JAM before the film and stick around for the filmmaker talkback.

Come back Friday night 3/24 and support WRIF at our official opening Gala Party at JAM 5-6:30pm with Route 5 Jive and Fulla Flava Jamaican Jerk, followed by NO BEARS, Iranian film master Jafar Panahi's latest and possibly greatest work, followed by THE BUTTERFLY QUEEN with VT filmmaker Liam O'Connor-Generaux in attendance. To cap off the night, stick around for the GUSH immersive cinema after-party at JAM, viewed the way Indigenous filmmaker Fox Macy wanted her first feature film, fresh from Sundance, to be seen.

AND THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING! Read all about it and stick around for a weekend that will make you fall back in love with movies and their power to inspire, awaken, and catalyze change.

Who's your Patty?

This Friday on St. Patrick's Day JAM dances up a full day of Irish-related fun on Channels 1075 and 1085. Hear Nick Edwards perform traditional fiddle music at the Briggs. The trio Atlantic Crossing  delivers a good time at Lebanon's 1st Congregational Church. Learn the Science of Beer at the NH Science Cafe, and discover the saga of Capt. John Lonergan, an Irish native whose Union company turned the tide at Gettysburg.

She won't be silenced

One of TIME Magazine's 2023 'Women of the Year, Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad recently spoke at Dartmouth's Dickey Center. Exiled since 2009, the dissident says "Iran is inside me. I am there every single day through social media." Indeed—she has nine million Instagram followers.

What's the buzz?

Apiarist Jeffery Hamelman of King Arthur Bakery keeps six colonies in Hartland. He recently shared Vermont's beekeeping history with the Woodstock Historical Society and WCTV. He shares his "profound awe" at seeing thousands of bees swarm, leaving the hive to form a new colony. "There are relationships between bees and flowers that blow my mind," he says. "They make bullseyes to guide the pollinator."
