Shirel Event Booking Form

Coming this May, Jewish Community Foundation Orange County (JCFOC) is bringing - all the way from Israel - our first 2023 Weissman Artist-in-Residence under our the newly reimagined program. Shirel Horovitz will join us here in the OC for a month-long residency. During her time with JCFOC, Shirel will explore finding beauty in the seemingly mundane through her Choreography of Gratitude project. Shirel will have two joint gallery exhibitions in Santa Ana's Artist Village and at the Merage JCC. JCFOC is also planning a series of public programs for community members. Included below is information on our three main community wide workshops.

We are offering Shirel’s workshops, talks, and tours to our OC Jewish nonprofits (i.e., all former Weissman grantees) tailored for your constituents to you at no cost.

You can learn more about Shirel below. Click the button or the link to book an event and learn how you can bring Shirel to your members/constituents. The event booking form includes detailed information on the partially subsidized event for your community with a micro-grant from JCFOC. Beyond the micro-grants we are covering all costs of bringing Shirel to Orange County and any materials needed for programming. In addition, we will provide your organization with marketing materials and cross-promote all events.

Please note each available event will have a limited number of mico-grants. Therefore, your organization must book early to ensure a micro-grant opportunity. Once booked, the form will read SOLD OUT. If you would like to book a “sold out” event, you may be able to do so (potentially without the micro-grant) by selecting the “custom event” choice. Or email Weissman Arts and we will work with you and your organization.

You're Invited - Save the Date:

Calling all creatives, actors, movers, shakers, dreamers, jokers, storytellers, and rabble-rousers, help us capture a snapshot of life in the OC. Shirel Horovitz will create a community-driven video project that will build throughout her time here. We want you to be a part of this unique artist project.

To help Shirel create the video, JCFOC will host three Community Art Days as a series of interactive public workshops spread across Orange County. The Community Arts Days will include a short artist talk, a movement workshop, and a video opportunity. In addition, Shirel will edit the collateral from each event to create a site-specific video.

Open to all ages (minors should be accompanied by an adult). Registration information for the nearest site to you will be sent in the coming weeks. If you have questions about this event opportunity email: weissmanarts@jcfoc.org.

Meet the artist, Shirel Horovitz:

Tel Aviv-based artist, Shirel Horovitz is best known for her performances and installations incorporating etchings, sculptures, video, and sound. Her artistic practice explores cities, communities, and the relationship between humans and their physical surroundings.

During her month-long OC residency, Choreography of Gratitude, Shirel will help us find beauty in the seemingly mundane. Our lives are punctuated by endless daily rituals: The way we greet a colleague, the way we exercise, pray in synagogue, and cheer for our favorite team. We sway, lift, bend, bow, embrace, release, advance, consume, recline, turn, run, retreat, and repeat. Shirel, through her exhibition, public programs, workshops, talks, tours, and more, will help us recognize and appreciate our ritual moments - deepening our appreciation for every day.

Shirel earned her BFA from the prestigious Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem (2007) and her MA (2015) from The Interdisciplinary Art program at Tel Aviv University. She has exhibited in major galleries, museums, and art festivals in Israel and the US. Shirel is the recipient of the Rabinovitch Foundation Artist Prize 2018 and is working on a series for the Contemporary Print Festival in Jerusalem in March 2023. Alongside her art practice, Shirel teaches art, lectures, gives art tours, and is an art consultant to various private groups and institutions.
