A Holistic Food Preparation Student Shares Her Experience

“I recently completed the Holistic Food Preparation class and it was amazing. To be honest, it was the best weekend I had in years. Our instructor, Dana Steeves-Adams, made every second count and put a lot of love and ingredients into the recipes she made. I was completely immersed in the subject matter and felt as if I 'fell off the grid'. It was an incredible experience. Dana is positive and has an abundance of knowledge and enthusiasm for healthy cooking. She made the class even more enjoyable than I expected it to be. I don't remember the last time I felt this happy. This class fed and rejuvenated my soul (and tummy!). It has been the highlight of the program so far. Prior to this course, I wasn't an avid "chef", but Dana made me fall in love with cooking. Now, I want to do my Co-op with her to build the skills I need to incorporate more culinary efforts in my practice and personal life—it's where my heart is calling me after my phenomenal weekend cooking in class!"

Join this lecture to learn about all of the therapeutic benefits that the ketogenic diet yields. Consuming fewer food groups along with higher fat and protein foods results in feeling less hungry. It also results in a longer digestion time that ultimately supports weight loss. Besides weight loss, the keto diet more importantly has been effectively used to reduce the frequency of epileptic seizures in children and mitigate symptoms with progressive neurological disorders like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Since the keto diet reduces blood sugar, it can lower the risk of insulin complications and even supplement certain cancer treatments. Heart health (and cholesterol), as well as hormonal disorders such as PCOS, have also benefited from a ketogenic diet. For complete details visit:

Healthy Aging Through Healthy Living

Canadians are not only living longer, but we are living longer in good health. Dr. Samir Sinha, Director of Geriatrics at Sinai Health System and University Health Network in Toronto, ON, chalks up longevity to a healthier lifestyle, improved living standards, and medical advances. The longevity dividend, Dr. Sinha explains in an October 3, 2020, Alive article (3 minute read), “Living Long And Well”, suggests that we are more productive in the later years. “Older people have acquired skills and experience that enable them to fill roles where labour shortages exist; they can mentor younger workers, and they often take on caregiver roles.”

Condiments are a well-loved addition to many favourite meals but may have questionable ingredients that CNPs would rather do without. Some food additives to watch out for include high fructose corn syrup, natural and artificial flavours, food dyes/colours, and hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated oils. Each one of these carries the risk of contributing to potential health issues. Making condiments from scratch ensures you get to choose every nutrient-dense ingredient that goes into the recipe. IHN graduate Sarah Britton shares seven delicious condiments that are a healthy version of your favourite classics.
