JANUARY 2021

Happy New Year from City Hall!!!!!!!!!!!

At the end of today, we'll put another calendar year in the books, and I don’t know anyone that isn’t looking forward to that!

We hope you all had a great holiday, although I’m sure it was much different from those you’ve become used to.  Regardless as to what holiday you celebrate, that might even be a good thing. No matter how you look at it, your priorities must have been re-examined, if not re-defined, because of the pandemic, which rages on.  Being grateful for what you do have, instead of what you don’t…..being around family and loved ones, no matter how you had to adjust in order to accomplish that.  The holiday season means many different things to each and every one of us, but our world has been in a special funk for the past almost a year now, and we are all hoping and praying that 2021 brings better times.  Stay positive!

On the City front, we continue to provide our normal services, some with a little twist.  In Leisure Services, we had another concert in December, another successful Winter Wonderland event, with over 1,000 attending (drive-through) and a great dance recital put on by Ms. Suda’s dancers, held at RE Olds Park.  The Leisure Services department continues to present great events for the community, even with the restrictions caused by Covid-19.  Kudos to Chip and his Staff for their energy and enthusiasm, which keeps getting better and better, regardless of restrictions.

On the Public Works front, we are making significant progress on a few major projects around the city, all affecting transportation.  First, although not a city project, most of you will notice that FDOT is close to finishing the re-surfacing of Tampa Road.  A sigh of relief for commuters. Secondly, we are making great progress in extending Burbank Road (right next to McDonalds), which, when completed, will reach all the way to Douglas Road and provide another access point to people traversing into or out of the Industrial part of town.  Finally, Phase 2 of the Harbor Palms project is close to getting underway, some much needed upgrades in that part of the city.

Combine the above with some super exciting Economic Development projects we’ve been negotiating on, and the City continues to be as busy as ever!

We hope you all have a great New Year celebration, and that 2021 is a banner year for you and your family.  Please be confident that we are here, as we have been throughout the pandemic, standing ready to do whatever is necessary to keep the city moving forward.

Don’t forget to take a glance at the helpful information provided below.

See you next year!!!!!
Thanks.
