Covid-19 Policy for Fall Performances

Outlined below are the Covid-19 policies
that performers and attendees must
follow for ALL SDYS Fall performances.
 


ALL performers and attendees over age 6 must provide one of the
following in order to enter the venue:
 
  • Proof of being fully vaccinated. A picture of your child’s Covid-19 vaccination card will need to be submitted before any attended performance to the email: covid19vaccination@sdys.orgOR
 
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before entering for entry. At-home test results will not be accepted. Find No-Cost Testing here.


  • Please do not resubmit COVID-19 vaccination cards to covid19vaccination@sdys.org if you have already done so.


*Failure to comply with these guidelines by students or attendees
will result in exclusion from the concert.

Symphony & Chamber Orchestra Rehearsal Tonight

Chamber Orchestra: 7:35pm-8:45pm
As a reminder, Symphony & Chamber Orchestra will have a required rehearsal tonight. Call time is 5:45pm in rehearsal room 207 of Balboa Park's Casa del Prado. Symphony Orchestra will rehearse from 6:00pm-7:25pm and Chamber Orchestra from 7:35pm-8:45pm.
Musical ArtStops at San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park

(included with Museum admission)

Tour the Museum through music! Travel through the Museum galleries as San Diego Youth Symphony soloists present 10-minute performances throughout the Museum inspired by works of art now on view.

Musical ArtStops at the San Diego Museum of Art feature students deftly pairing pieces of classical music with works from the Museum’s permanent collection in intimate and unique performances.
SDYS Fall Concert Overview: Dates & Call Times

The season's first concerts will be Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14
at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido
(340 N Escondido Blvd, Escondido, CA 92025).

Participation at the concert is required by all students who are performing. Please save the dates for the SDYS' Fall Concerts this November. There will be dress rehearsals prior to the concert, and as a reminder, any musician who misses the dress rehearsal will forfeit participation in the concert. All students are expected to attend the entire concert, out of respect for their fellow musicians.

*Families receiving tuition assistance, an email containing ticket purchasing instructions has been sent. Please reach out if you have not received an email.
Concert Attire Reminder

Concert attire is a visual representation of the artistic excellence we present on stage. All students should arrive to their dress rehearsal in concert attire. Students will not be allowed to participate in the group photo or perform at the concert without wearing the appropriate concert attire.

SDYS has a limited amount of concert attire that has been donated. If you would like further information about what is available, or if you would like to donate concert attire, please contact the office at 619-233-3232.

Volunteer Opportunities!

Would you like to help volunteer at our first concert of the season?

SDYS is looking for enthusiastic parents to help chaperone and check-in students at the November Fall concerts.
If you feel this might be something you are interested in please follow the link below to sign up for a time slot.
Led by SDYS musicians, and mentored by SDYS program managers, Kaitlyn Korogy and Dr. Lauren Rausch, the SDYS Youth Leadership Council brings together young leaders from across SDYS programs to connect and contribute to the future of SDYS.

Youth leaders meet together twice a month on Zoom or in Balboa Park to collaborate and utilize a secure, private group chat to share ideas in between meetings.

Eligibility:
  • Current SDYS musician in good standing
  • Ages 14 and over
  • Participants must have parent/guardian permission to join

ChIMES "Sights & Sounds of the Season" Session Now Enrolling!

Join us as we celebrate the “Sights & Sounds of the Season”! From twinkly lights and falling snow to jingle bells and hot cocoa, there will be plenty of singing, dancing, and musical merriment in this festive 4-week holiday session.

This session, for children ages 0-5 and their parents/caregivers, starts the week of November 15 and runs through December 18 (no classes during Thanksgiving week). There are class options in Balboa Park (Marston House) and Liberty Station.

All enrolled families will also receive access to the online ChIMES Video Library, curated Spotify playlists, songbooks, and supplemental educational materials, which are great ways to continue the music at home in between classes!

ChIMES Guest Musicians Wanted

Would you like to demonstrate your instrument for young children ages 0-5 and their caregivers as a ChIMES Guest Musician?

Please complete the Guest Musician Interest Form and we will get in touch to confirm details! This is a fun experience that also counts for community service or volunteer hours.

Applications Open for National Youth Ensembles
Applications for the 2022 season of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), NYO2, and NYO Jazz are now open.

Carnegie Hall’s national youth ensembles bring together the finest teen musicians from across the country for training led by a stellar faculty of leading players from America’s top professional orchestras and esteemed jazz performers, and performance opportunities on the world’s greatest stages. 

In summer 2022, conductor Daniel Harding—music and artistic director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra—joins NYO-USA as guest conductor, leading the ensemble on a European tour. NYO2 returns to Miami Beach for its residency and performance, continuing its partnership with the New World Symphony. Sean Jones returns for his fifth year as artistic director and bandleader of NYO Jazz, which will embark on a US tour.

Southern California Viola Society Youth Competition
SCVS presents Youth Competition in conjunction with the American Viola Society Festival and Primrose International Viola Competition.
Applicants are required to to submit the online application along with a $35 dollar non-refundable application fee.

PRIZES
1st place: $500
2nd place: $300
3rd place: $150

All winners will be presented at a winner’s recital at the prestigious AVS Festival at the renowned Colburn School in Los Angeles. Winners and Honorable mentions will be presented at the final Winner’s recital at the Colburn School. Deadline for application submission: Sunday, November 21.
