Lorri has been a part-time librarian at BPL since October and says that BPL staff and patrons are some of the nicest people she has met in Connecticut. While she has worked in many types of libraries including school, college, and the CT State Library, her favorite are public libraries since that’s where she gets to meet local residents. Her favorite BPL program so far has been The Wintonbury Poetry Series. She says that listening to poets read their own poetry adds another dimension to the written words. She hopes to attend an Invasive Species Hands-On Workshop soon as it raises awareness of which plants are native and which are harmful.
She recently started making a point to read books that have been translated into English. Reading books by non-English speakers provides other world views, as well as insights into other cultures and ways of thinking. She recommends The Swimmers by Julie Otsuka, Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, and Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk, all available through BPL. She loves listening to audiobooks and used to subscribe to Audible but realized how silly it was to pay Amazon for this when the library offers Hoopla and Libby for free. In her mind, these are absolutely the best apps ever!
