OPEN, OPEN, OPEN!
SEPTEMBER 2021
You can almost smell it—the pumpkin spice in the air, the new back-to-school supplies, and the last of the tomato harvest lingering in our homes and on our plates. Out of all the transitional months, September can seem like a bit of an oddball. It still tastes like summer at the farmers markets and yet the holidays feel just around the corner. We have some exciting news to start your transition to fall off right: The best news might be that there’s still time to eat and get outdoors!

WHAT'S IN SEASON? ONLY THE FRESHEST AT FARMERS MARKETS
In the Bay Area, September means the start of local autumn harvests such as artichokes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, sunchokes and sweet potatoes! Our insider tip is that the prized Aji Amarillo pepper from Happy Quail Farms in Palo Alto is scheduled to be ready to ship late September.

Take a look at our Edible farmers market guide or go directly California Farmers Market Association or Urban Farmers Markets to find out days, hours and the freshest news for your local market.

OPEN, OPEN, OPEN OUTDOOR DINING
Did you know that Costanoa seaside resort in Pescadero is serving up California coastal cuisine using local, organic and handcrafted ingredients at the Cascade Bar & Grill? And September is a great time to enjoy the great and tasty outdoors here in the Bay Area.
Cascade Bar & Grill, Costanoa
Plus, we’ve got our eye on a couple of other newly opened California-cuisine restaurants serving fresh, local and seasonal—both with inviting outdoor tables and options.

Roger Bar and Restaurant, located in the new Ameswell Hotel off Moffett Boulevard in Mountain View, boasts year-round open-air dining and drinks with their high-flying CA menu with a Mediterranean spin. The new Baribar Bistro in Los Altos mixes local and other California farm-sourced ingredients with a nod to the owners’ Southern Italian roots—the outdoor tables are surrounded by fresh growing potted basil. For the pesto? Buono!
