As you may know, November is an important month for Tides, as well as many grief organizations and grievers around the nation - November is Children's Grief Awareness Month! It is the time of year when we focus on the children in the community who have experienced a significant loss. We emphasize the positive impact support can have on the younger generations, and provide hope and perseverance to youth as they cope with the death of a loved one.
Oftentimes younger children lack the skillset and knowledge that life experiences bring to cope with substantial loss. This can make it very difficult for adults in a child’s life to help them navigate through their grief. Fortunately, there are ways to break through this barrier to support younger children. Art plays a vital role in the grieving process and gives children a way to express themselves. Because art plays such a major role in grieving, this year for Children's Grief Awareness Month, we will be focusing on the "Art of Grief." On November 18, Tides children and families will participate in three major forms of the arts - musical, painting and poetry. These various approaches to art give children, and adults alike, the opportunity to put their feelings on canvas, paper, or in musical form.
We are looking forward to supporting our Tides children and families by providing them with a safe place to express their grief.
Sincerely,
Holly
