Tennis Canada would like to recognize the contribution of the City of Burlington, Cedar Springs Health, Racquet & Sportsclub and Ace Tennis on Canada’s recent Davis Cup win in what is known as the World Cup of tennis, on Friday, March 24th, 2023. This historic achievement is the first World Championship win for Canadian tennis since the inception of this competition 123 years ago.

The City of Burlington’s contribution to this success story is meaningful. Tennis Canada will celebrate this achievement with the city’s residents and staff by bringing the Davis Cup trophy, 1 metre tall and weighing close to 700 pounds, to Cedar Springs Club. Tennis Canada will have staff and security on site. The Davis Cup will be displayed and available for Burlington residents to share in this historic achievement and moment with official photo opportunities.

Cedar Springs Club in Burlington has been at the forefront of Canadian tennis development for over 40 years. The club has hosted Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic, Genie Bouchard, Bianca Andreescu and Leyla Fernandez, the backbone of Canadian Tennis International performance. The City of Burlington and Cedar Springs Club has also been the home of All CanadianAce Tennis Academy, a leader in player tennis development for over 40 years. It has developed and provided scholarship opportunities for over 200 students while driving many key development stages of Canada’s top players, including International Hall of Fame member Daniel Nestor and Canada’s new international star, 16-year-old Vicky Mboko, a long-time Burlington resident.

Tennis Canada would also like to highlight the necessary contribution of the city to the future of the sport in our country by identifying Burlington as a desired future location for a proposed Southwest Regional Tennis Centre, given the growth, success and popularity of our sport and given the health and wellness benefits our sport offers residents. In addition, the southwest region has been identified as an ideal location to attract players, families and fans to the region for these events.
