The eighth graders are very busy preparing for the Catholic High School Entrance Exam. This year they will be joining students in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens by taking the TACHS exam. The exam will take place on Saturday, 7 November and will be administered virtually. Please remember to offer a prayer for their success in completing the examination and acceptance into a Catholic high school of their choice.
Preparing for high school also involves researching the various high schools to see how the student can best fulfill their educational future. Open Houses are offered and students visit in order to attain as much information that will allow them to make a decision that is best for them and their educational abilities. Even in this time of COVID-19 our students have been doing their due diligence by visiting in person or virtually the various high schools that they are contemplating for the next phase of their educational journey.
On Wednesday evening, 28 October the eighth-grade class had the opportunity for a private tour of Chaminade High School. The tour was conducted by the school's president, Brother Thomas Cleary, principal Brother Joseph Bellizzi and several faculty members. Chaminade students assisting with the tour included two alumni of The De La Salle School, Matthew Sotelo '17 and Eric Rodriguez '20. It was a very informative and wonderful evening with many of the students commenting that they could see themselves as Chaminade students next year. Thank you to the Chaminade community for providing this opportunity to the young men of The De La Salle School.
The faculty and staff of The De La Salle School astound me with their enthusiasm and dedication as they perform their magic to ensure that the young men entrusted to our care have the necessary tools to succeed educationally and to grow their faith and spiritual lives. Their efforts and success during this time of COVID-19 have been absolutely incredible. Many thanks to the student teachers from Molloy College for their assistance in our classrooms and online. We are grateful to have you as part of our team. The future of education is in good hands.
As we move forward with the school year, and we continue with our hybrid model of both in-school classes as well as online lessons, I am heartened by the faculty's dedication and continued efforts to provide the young men of The De La Salle School with a nurturing and welcoming environment, so that he knows that he is a unique and talented creation of a loving God.
