NEWS - Dec. 21, 2020
As we move into the long-awaited holiday week, my lead story looks at whether we should upgrade to macOS Big Sur. There's no single "best" answer - instead, here is what you need to consider:

Before I get to the news, next week I hope to publish an article covering the significant events of 2020 - specifically regarding media. I encourage you to share your thoughts! Email me and I'll include them in my article.

Turning to the news:

Apple quietly changed the name of Final Cut Pro X to simply "Final Cut Pro." It happened with the 10.5 update and accompanied the release of Big Sur, which is macOS 11, rather than X. Logic Pro was also renamed, dropping the "X" as well.

Bill Hess, with pixelprivacy.com, sent me an outstanding guide to finding the best Wi-Fi channel for your router. A common reason for slow internet speeds is overload on the same network channels and his tutorial helps people tackle this. I think this could be useful for anyone with a slow connection.

The Active Archive Alliance is a relatively new industry association that serves as a vendor-neutral, trusted source for providing end users with technical expertise and guidance to design and implement modern active archive strategies that solve data growth challenges through intelligent data management. Within the last two weeks both Object Matrix and Xendata joined.

My last webinar for this year - Ask Larry Anything! - was a great success. It was a great way to wrap up the year as we covered a lot of different topics. You'll find the complete version in my store. However, I also pulled several highlights that are worth watching. You'll find the list in the Articles section below.

To give us time to enjoy the holidays, webinars will resume Wednesday, Jan. 6.

I also have a fun article on working with text in Final Cut Pro. In it, I showcase ways to use typical text effects in non-typical ways. It was fun to write. You'll find it in the Articles section below.

Now is the perfect time to sign up for my free weekly Inside Tips. These weekly newsletters on Final Cut, Premiere, Motion, codecs, visual effects and production are a quick way to make the most of the technology you use every day.

The holidays are now upon us - a chance to catch our breath and reflect on the last year and look forward to the year ahead. 2020 was a year like no other. I hope and pray that 2021 will be better for all of us. On behalf of my entire team: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Please email me your 2020 highlights! Until next Monday, stay safe, stay healthy and stay hopeful. Edit well.
