Juniors to Take SAT State Assessment on Tuesday April 13
Seniors are asked to work remotely that day. Classes will have independent assignments posted online.
|
|
On Tuesday, April 13th, all Juniors will be taking the SAT at SRHS. All Seniors will have an asynchronous learning day. Juniors will complete the pre registration questionnaire and a practice session on Monday, April 12th in the afternoon. Juniors will need to bring their Chromebook and their chargers to school on Monday and plan to leave them at school overnight. Juniors will complete the testing on Tuesday by 1:00 PM. With parent permission (please send in a note), Juniors may be dismissed for the day after testing. Busses will not run until the end of the day and students will have an opportunity to complete independent work in the library or cafeteria at the high school after testing is complete.
Parents can help students to do their best by encouraging them to get a good night's sleep the night before and to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning. Students may bring a water bottle and a snack for the test. Students should leave all electronic devices home or they will be collected at the beginning of the test by the proctor. Calculators will be provided unless a student would like to use their own approved calculator. Students who attend SST will be excused from SST for both the practice session and the actual test day.
Remote students will be tested in a group for remote students only but they must come into school; there is not an option for at home testing for the SAT. Masks must be worn at all times.
Juniors must be at school by 7:30 in order to have their temperature taken, eat a quick snack and arrive at their test room on time. No late entries will be permitted.
If you have any questions, please contact Heidi Leavitt at hleavitt@sau17.net.

Senior Spotlight: Ella Cotter
An Article by Staff Member Brian Gray
|
|
Elinor Cotter is a graduating Senior at Sanborn and truly left her mark on Sanborn. Ella as she prefers, is a dedicated person who settles for nothing but her best. She is constantly filling her schedule with opportunities to test her limits and challenge herself.
Ella in the school community has been very active in her four years at Sanborn. Along with taking a challenging schedule of AP and Honors courses, she has been the Student Council President the last two years, a member of the national honor society, and an active member in the Key Club and Life of a Student Leadership Club. Ella is a definition of a Sanborn Leader and could always be seen at conferences representing Sanborn and involved in numerous presentations. Ella is always willing to take on challenges and constantly finds ways to improve those around her and the community she is a part of.
Ella, along with excelling in the classroom, also is a three sport athlete at Sanborn. In the fall, she has been instrumental to the success of our girls Field hockey team as a leader and a Second Team All State Player this past Fall. In Basketball, She was a Varsity Captain and starter for the team. Ella could always be depended on to give her best effort on the court and was monumental as a mentor to our younger players. One of her Teammates said this about her, “Ella would always give others a chance before herself and would help anyone near her. If I asked for help she would be right there for me.” Even during her senior year during a pandemic, she kept her teammates going either by giving emotional speeches to the school board, pushing teammates in practice virtually and in person and capping her career off with her best season. This spring, she will be taking her talents to the softball field and will showcase her leadership skills.
Ella Cotter is a tremendous Sanborn Student who has a bright future ahead of her. Hopefully she will pursue her chosen career path of Political Science because we can use someone like her in the political field guiding our society in the future.

Senior Spotlight: Ellen McGough
An Article by Staff Member Brian Gray
|
|
Ellen McGough is a graduating Senior from Sanborn Regional High School. Ellen has definitely made a name for herself on the basketball court during her time at Sanborn as an athlete.
Her Basketball Coach and Google Apps teacher had this to say about Ellen, “When she came to the high school, I have been able to observe her in the classroom and also on the court as a member of our Girls Varsity Basketball Program. Over this time, I have seen tremendous growth from Ellen not just as a student athlete but also as a person. One word that I would use to describe Ellen McGough is that she is determined and when she puts her mind to it, she can accomplish it.” Ellen McGough has also been a fixture at school spirit events throwing touchdowns to her peers at pep rallies and representing her class decked out in their colors.
Ellen recently capped off her best season on the Varsity Basketball team averaging double figures in points for the 4th year in a row with 4 games of over 20 points. Ellen has been a four year Varsity player for Sanborn and was recognized as an All State Honorable Mention for Division 2 and one of the top 12 seniors in her division. Ellen scored an amazing 818 points in her career and had multiple games where she hit 6 3s. If not for some unfortunate injuries and a shortened Senior year, she could have been a 1000pt scorer. On the court, Ellen could be seen swishing long range shots and swatting opposing players' shot attempts on defenders. Ellen may also hold the record for most buzzer beater shots finding ways to put her team in the lead or win games when her name is called to make the big play.
Ellen plans on continuing her academic career at a 4 year college and has multiple opportunities to play basketball at the next level. Ellen plans on a major of interior design or athletic training. We wish this sharp shooter the best of luck next year and hope to catch some of her games when she is competing in the college ranks.

Senior Spotlight: Madison Houghton
An Article by Staff Member Brian Gray
|
|
Madison Houghton is a Senior this year who has truly impacted Sanborn during her four years at Sanborn. Maddy as people call her, is at the top of her class academically, a nationally recognized leader and a hard working athlete. She has been a role model and true definition of a Sanborn Student Athlete while at Sanborn.
Educators who have been lucky enough to have Maddy in class know that she is a driven individual who gives nothing less than her best to everything she does. She is constantly looking to learn and as evident in her transcript, she is not afraid to take on academic challenges. Maddy has taken multiple AP classes, college credit classes and participated in multiple clubs at the school. She is a member of the Key Club, Life of a Student Club and an influential mentor in the Best Buddies program at Sanborn. Never a fan of free time, Maddy also works at a long term care facility and plays basketball all year round.
On the basketball court, Madison really shines. She just completed her best season yet and has many accolades to show for it. Maddy, a two year captain for the Girls Varsity Basketball Team has led her team to the playoffs each season with season ending losses coming only at the hands of the eventual champions. Maddy averaged a double double this season and was recognized as one of the top Seniors in Division 2 making the Second Team All State. Maddy also won the prestigious Jack Ford Award given to only 8 athletes in the state across the divisions. This award recognizes players who excel on the court, in the classroom and are involved in community service. Other awards this year for the Senior include the Earl Moynihan Lumber Scholar Athlete Award and the Merrimack Valley Fall League Senior Scholarship Award. Last year, Madison was recognized nationally as a Green 13 winner because of her Leadership. All of these prestigious awards come from Maddy’s ability to work harder than anyone else, put herself before others and her dedication to giving her best effort.
Madison Houghton will be missed next season and there will be a battle for the honor to wear her #11 next year because of all the players that she has inspired to play basketball for Sanborn. Her leadership and dedication has been top notch and will be felt for years after she continues her studies next year to become a Doctor. It is a fitting career choice for a person that takes so much joy in serving others and the world will be better having her trade her basketball uniform in for a white coat in the future.

Senior Spotlight: Kaiden Lytle
An Article by Staff Member Jennifer Belcher-MacAvoy
|
|
Kaiden is the perfect example of the exact type of person I hope my students will become….kind, generous, authentic! When I see Kaiden around campus he always has a genuine smile that lights up the place. He is mature beyond his years displaying true appreciation and gratitude for those around him which is inspiring and refreshing. He is a role model to students and staff alike with his authenticity, tenacity and resilience.
I feel very privileged to have seen him grow over the past 4 years into the amazing human he has become, both in the classroom and community as a whole. He has been very active in extracurricular activities such as Education For Justice Committee, Diversity Club, National Honor Society, Chorus, and Book Club. He also volunteers at the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Kaiden loves animals and dreams of being a wildlife biologist. In pursuit of this dream he will attend the University of Vermont’s Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, pursuing a degree in Environmental Science. In recognition of Kaiden's academic excellence, UVM awarded him a Presidential scholarship.
Outside of school Kaiden enjoys reading, hiking, camping, painting/drawing and listening to music.
To quote a portion of a statement from Kaiden’s favorite artist, David Bowie, “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.” I have no doubt he will make a lasting impact on the world just as he has on the Sanborn community and am sure it will not be boring!
Kaiden’s teachers had this to say about him:
Ms. Ashley Harbel:
“Kaiden is one amazing human being. I have been super lucky to see Kaiden grow and shine in so many different ways, both academically and just as a human being. I don't know that there are even words to really express how proud I am of him and the person he is growing to be. He is always one of my go-to people when I need a student to speak the truth and value that we have the type of relationship where he is comfortable being himself and being open and honest with me about our world and our community. We have had so many amazing conversations about how our world works and what we would like to see in the future. I am so excited to see where this world takes him and hope that our paths will cross again!”
Ms. Boisvert:
“Kaiden is smart, sensitive, and intuitive. He is so talented with drawing and writing. Many of his assignments I have used as exemplars for later classes. I enjoyed having him in class his Sophomore and Junior years.”
Ms. Smith-Davis:
“I had the pleasure of having Kaiden Lytle in class for three out of his four years of High School. Although he is quiet most of the time, I really enjoyed getting to know his subtle sense of humor throughout the years I had him in class. Kaiden is incredibly bright, caring, hard-working and thoughtful in all that he does. I feel so lucky to have had him in class for several years, and to witness his growth throughout that time. I will really miss having Kaiden around the halls at SRHS, but I'm sure he will be successful in life after graduation! Best wishes, Kaiden!”
Ms. Beebe:
“Kaiden has always been a polite and respectful person, from the first time we met at the local ice cream shop. I have enjoyed watching his journey as he has worked hard to find his voice. From the slightly awkward and uncomfortable preteen years to the "I can't believe he is a senior" mature and confident NOW. Kaiden is someone you want in your corner. He is not afraid to stand up for what is right and will always do whatever it takes to have his message heard. Congrats to Kaiden as he prepares for graduation!”
Mr. Croteau:
"I have known Kaiden for a number of years and I am so grateful to have been able to have him in classes over multiple years! He is a remarkable, caring, intelligent and witty soul...I can attest because he gets all of my witty puns! He will do great things for humanity!"

Spring Carnival Information
|
|
Hello Sanborn Community!!
I wanted to share with you some key events about Winter (Spring) Carnival so you know what is going on. Usually, Winter Carnival is held the week before February vacation. Obviously, that isn't the case this year and hopefully next year we will be doing all of our Student Council community building in person! This year, SPRING Carnival will be held the week prior to April break. At the end of the week of spirit raising on Friday, April 23rd, we have a school wide pep rally from about 12-2:10. This pep rally will be broadcast live to all students in their advisories.
Here are some key events you need to know:
Penny Wars: Starting on Wednesday 14th in the library, the Penny War competition will last until the following Wednesday at the end of the day. Four containers will be in the library all week long and each grade will put coins in their grade’s container and dollar bills in the other grade’s containers. Coins give points and dollar bills subtract points. All the money that is donated will go to charity. The winning class also earns the right to pie or water balloon someone...details to be announced....
Pennies: +1 1 Dollar Bill: –100
Nickels: +5 5 Dollar Bill: –500
Dimes: +10 10 Dollar Bill: –1,000
Quarters: +25
Dollar Coin: +100
NAME THAT TUNE: Each class will have 4 people. Boys and/or girls. Clips will be played from a series of songs, the first person to recognize the song and is the first person to raise their hand must state the song and artist. It does not count if the person only knows one of the two requirements. Points will be added for correct answers and deduced for wrong. (this will be a closed event in the library Wednesday April 21)
4 SQUARE VOLLEYBALL: Each Grade will have 4 participants, boys and girls. 2 players from each grade will go at the same time, and subs will be self directed by each grade. One net will be set up, with both sides split into half. Seniors and freshmen will be on one side and different splits, and sophomores and juniors on the other side and different split. Players cannot hit the ball on the split next to them, they must hit the ball to the other side of the net. When the ball lands in the square of a grade, they will get a point. The grade with the least amount of points will win. Other places will be determined by points.
KNOCKOUT: Each class will have four people from each grade, boys and/or girls. Each player will be in a singular line at the basket. The line will go (front to back) freshman, sophomore, junior, senior (repeated). There will be 2 balls, and if the person behind you makes a shot before you, you will be “knocked out”. It should be marked by sports chairs and the grades place.
DODGEBALL: Each class will have a team of 6 people. There will be a total of four games. The first two games will be played together. Freshmen will play juniors, and sophomores will play seniors. The main gym will be divided into two so both games can be played. Once the winners of the two games are determined, the losers from both pairs will play each other with the full gym, and the winners will play each other with a full gym to decide places. If games run long, judges will start to limit space.
RELAY RACE: Each class will need 4 people from each grade, boys and/or girls. All 4 grades will be responsible for bringing some kind of baton to use. Each team will be lined up on one end of the basketball court baseline. Each person will race from baseline to baseline and then will pass off the baton to the next person. Places will be determined by when each grade finished For the scooter portion, grades will still start on a baseline and go baseline to baseline, the scooter will be the baton. On the scooter, all players have to face forward for the first leg (and go backwards for the second leg) and cannot use their hands: if a judge sees a person facing the wrong way or using their hands, they will have to go back to the beginning. Places will be determined by when each grade finishes.
TUG OF WAR: There will be two teams: one with 6 boys and one with 6 girls. The object of the game is to pull a ribbon tied in the middle of a long rope over the circle on the floor and therefore win against the other team. Freshmen will verse the Juniors and the Sophomores will verse the Seniors (rotating boys and girls). The two losing teams will compete for 3rd and 4th place and the two winning teams will compete for 1st and 2nd.
**if there is time and availability there may be a teachers vs winners competition**
LIP SYNCH: Each grade will put together a 5-7 minute lip-sync that has dialogue, music and props that have to do with their class theme. The lip-syncs must be pre-recorded and saved on AT LEAST TWO IPODS! It goes without saying that they must be school appropriate. Videos may be edited.
If students are interested in participating during the pep rally (This year, there will be no events/semi finals other than Name that Tune after school), please see a member of their class council to sign up. If a student signs up, please make sure they have a signed waiver. They are located outside of my classroom (room 105) and are due by the end of the day Monday the 12th. There are no exceptions to this, so please be prompt. If a student is remote, they may email me for the form and have someone leave it with Mrs. Haley at the front desk.
Only students participating in an event are allowed in the gym during our modified rally. Modern Media will be presenting the entire event live and students will view these events in their advisories.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email at bboisvert@sau17.net!
Thank You,
-Bari Boisvert , Student Council Faculty Advisor

PTO Clothing & Shoe Donation Bins
|
|
When you drop your unwanted clothing and shoes off in these bins, the SRHS PTO gets paid based on the weight of the clothing! This is a really easy way to help our school. All PTO proceeds go directly back to programming and scholarships that directly benefit our students. NOTE: Shoes must go in a separate bin.
Did you know? From April of 2015 - May 2017, this fundraiser has helped us raise nearly $2400.00 for the PTO. Help us double that number by sharing this opportunity with your friends, your family, and your neighbors!
