Hello Peter Hobart Families,
SLP Vision Statement:
“St. Louis Park Schools - Where students are seen and valued and become their best selves as racially conscious, globally minded contributors to society.”
This vision statement needs to be actualized now more than ever. Recent events let us know that we have work to do, as a nation, to become racially conscious, globally minded contributors to society.
At Peter Hobart, our students and staff are working towards this vision. As a staff we are talking about the trial of Derek Chauvin and the shootings in Atlanta. We are discussing how we need to make space for student discussion and learning around the impact these events have on us as individuals and our community.
Our students are exemplifying this vision, too. This past week a third grade class amplified student agency and made posters and signs against Asian and Pacific Island American discrimination and hate. This is a beautiful example of our students’ brilliance and how our students are taking the time to learn and share with each other so that all students are seen, valued and become their best selves as racially conscious, globally minded contributors to society.
Thank you for being your child's first and most critical teacher in achieving this mission.

A Message from Health Services Regarding COVID-19
In an effort to keep our community’s COVID-19 spread down, the District will continue to follow guidelines set in place by the Minnesota Department of Health. Although COVID-19 rates have decreased, Hennepin County continues to have high levels of community transmission (defined by the Minnesota Department of Health as greater than 10 cases per 10,000).
Students should not come to school if they are ill or if anyone in their household is ill. The District continues to follow a 10 day isolation period for individuals with COVID illness symptoms and a 14 day quarantine for those exposed to COVID-19 or exposed to a household member with symptoms of COVID-19.
We ask that student illness symptoms are reported to the school health office. Health office staff will review exclusion guidance and determine isolation and/or quarantine dates. The illness exclusion document that is used in our schools can be viewed here.
Free COVID testing locations can be found here.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students, staff, and community safe.

Free Groceries for Families Who Qualified for Free or Reduced-Price Meals During the 2020-21 School Year
Families in our district who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are now eligible for additional emergency nutritional benefits offered from the Federal government.
These benefits are provided by Federal “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” funds (P-EBT); a temporary food benefit to families with children who would have received free and reduced-price meals if schools were open. These additional benefits may be retroactive to September 2020, depending on when eligibility for free or reduced-meals is determined.
Families who qualify will receive separate electronic grocery cards for each student in the family. The cards would include funds (approximately $6.82/day) for each day your student was in distance learning during the school year. Cards were mailed from the State of Minnesota in late March 2021.
If you have already qualified for free or reduced-price meals earlier this school year, you don’t need to do anything because your family will automatically receive these new Federal nutritional benefits.

Earth Day Clean Up Event!
We Love SLP continues as we invite you to join together to clean up our beautiful city. Even though we cannot gather in large groups, we can spread out and make an impact that is bigger than ourselves! As the snow has melted, we notice debris left behind. In honor of Earth Day April 22nd, we invite you to join in outdoor clean up efforts anytime April 22nd- April 25th at any city park or along the bike path. Many hands make light work so all of the elementary PTOs are banding together to make this a city wide effort. Join in--together we can accomplish big things!
There will be a sign-up genius sent out later in the month to help us spread out and tackle specific areas around the city. If you want to nominate a spot to be put on the Sign Up feel free to email in any ideas!

Through a partnership with Seeds Feeds, Peter Hobart will be installing a small schoolyard garden in May! A larger Schoolyard Urban Farm will be installed at Aquila this spring with support from Seeds Feeds as well as the HDR Foundation. Both gardens will be used to teach youth and teens throughout the district. It is exciting to have these projects happen in conjunction with each other.
We are anticipating needing volunteers to help transport soil, compost, beds, and plants from Minneapolis to Peter Hobart on Friday, May 14th between 10am-4pm. We will also need interested families to help water, weed, and care for the garden this summer. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Becky Beerling at beerlingrebecca@gmail.com. Both projects will be discussed in more detail at the May 24th PTO meeting. Hope to see you there!

2020-2021 Yearbooks
The end of the school year is approaching quickly. To commemorate the 2020-2021 year, we will again have a full-color yearbook for Peter Hobart students to autograph and enjoy. The cost of each yearbook is $11.50. If you are able, we ask that you contribute fully for your copy and please consider sponsoring a yearbook for another student. Like in past years, the PTO decided that every Peter Hobart student should receive a yearbook. The PTO will purchase one for each child regardless of ability to pay. Both the school and the PTO feel that it is beneficial for each child to receive a yearbook to commemorate the school year. You can contribute via the PTO Venmo handle @PeterHobart-PTO or mark an envelope with “Yearbook” and enclose a cash or check payment to be given to your child’s teacher. Checks can be made out to Peter Hobart PTO.
