"Keeping people with disabilities moving!"
FODAC Honored as Tucker Business of the Year
Tucker, Georgia Mayor Frank Auman presented his third annual Mayor’s Business Award this week to Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC). The Award is given out annually to a Tucker company that is celebrating a special milestone or is actively giving back to the community. Auman recognized FODAC for identifying and addressing a need in the community, employing a sound and successful business model to support its mission of providing vital durable medical equipment (DME) at little to no cost for people with disabilities and their caregivers. "FODAC really is an example of where our business and philanthropic communities intersect,” said Auman. “They embody the notion of Tucker businesses doing well, while also doing good in the community."

The award was presented at the start of a Tucker City Council meeting; in observance of COVID safety recommendations, the meeting was not open to the public but was broadcast live on the city's YouTube channel. The video of the presentation can be viewed here.

FODAC and Rotary Provide Food Assistance
During COVID
Last weekend, FODAC partnered with DeKalb County Rotary clubs and hosted a Food Distribution event for families and children experiencing food insecurity during the pandemic. Funded by a grant from Rotary District 6900, 1,152 meal boxes (each containing five pounds of meat, five pounds of dairy including a gallon of milk, and twelve pounds of produce) were delivered via semi to the FODAC warehouse. Various metro Atlanta food coops were there to pick up loads and transport them to pop-up distribution events around DeKalb county. The shipment represented over 22,000 individual meals.

Thanks to FODAC staff and volunteers and Rotarians from Rotary Club of Stone Mountain, Rotary Club of Emory Druid Hills, Rotary Club of Emory-Clifton, Decatur Rotary Club, and Rotaract Club of Atlanta who worked all morning Saturday to unload the pallets, break them down, and then load each of the coop trucks.

FODAC President and CEO Chris Brand is assistant governor with Rotary District 6900 (and past president and member of the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain), and was instrumental in securing and managing the grant award.
