All Dressed Up for the Holidays
|
|
The Circle of Friends of the Pillsbury Free Library braved the cold (and some rain) on Saturday, Nov. 28 to decorate the exterior of the library for the holiday season. Other businesses and homes around Warner are also getting festive. Take a drive or walk around Main Street and absorb some cheerful sights during this gloomy weather.
Coming soon: The Kearsarge Area Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring prizes of gift certificates from local businesses, for the five businesses and organizations that get the most public votes for their seasonal decorations. A voting form will be posted on the Chamber's website. Link will be shared next week!

Warner Property Tax and Revaluation
Due to the pandemic, some steps in the revaluation and verification process were a little different this year, and some people were not able to meet with the revaluation company representatives.
If you feel your new assessment is unfair or has errors, you can request a copy of your "tax card" from Assess@warner.nh.us to check the details. You can also compare your values with similar properties by checking lists: 2020 Property Values: By Location, By Lot, or By Owner.
Tax Appeals and abatements
RSA 76:16 provides that an abatement may be granted for “good cause shown.” “Good cause” generally means: 1) establishing an assessment is disproportionate to market value and the municipality’s level of assessment; or 2) establishing poverty and inability to pay the tax. This form can be used for requesting an abatement. The taxpayer has the burden to prove good cause for an abatement.
Drought Update 11/25/20: Despite the widespread rain last week, month to date precipitation deficits across the state range from 10% to 75% of normal, and according to the U.S. Drought Monitor map drought conditions have remained unchanged. Currently 11.01% of the state is categorized as “extreme drought”(D3), 7.90% of the state is categorized as “severe drought”(D2), 80.77% of the state is categorized as “moderate drought”(D1), and 0.33% is categorized as abnormally dry. More information on the drought status

The manager at the Warner Dunkin Donuts store reported on Facebook that an employee tested positive for Covid-19 last week but had not worked the drive-thru. They closed on 11/24 for professionals to deep clean the store. No-one else at the store has tested positive. However, due to staff shortages, for the next week or so, they will be drive thru only, 5 am-12 pm, and 6 am-12 pm on Sunday. The store's information sharing is praiseworthy and appreciated.

Mysteries to Die For - From Venice!
by Roger Robbins
Immerse yourself in the Venice of police Commissario Guido Brunetti. In 29 novels, Donna Leon has created a nearly 3D world that you experience rather than read. Leon's touch is deft and her characters are real (think P.D. James or Louise Penny). Let Guido Brunetti take you on journeys that are exotic yet strikingly familiar. Let him show you how good and evil are intertwined wherever you go.

Scam of the Week: fake Zoom invites.
Double check the sender’s information. Zoom.com and Zoom.us are the only official domains for Zoom. If an email comes from a similar looking domain that doesn’t quite match the official domain name, it’s probably a phishing scam.
