All Adult Special Class This Sunday
A Conversation with Jean Becker and Jim McGrath
Followed by a Book Signing

Sunday, Oct. 17
10 a.m.
Bagby Parish Hall

St. Martin’s welcomes two former staff members of the Bush administration who will share beloved memories of serving President George H.W. and First Lady Barbara Bush: Jean Becker and Jim McGrath. All Adult Sunday School classes will attend their presentation.

Many have heard Jean Becker at St. Martin’s discuss her New York Times bestselling book, “Pearls of Wisdom,” a memoir about Barbara Bush. She recently released “The Man I Knew,” a heartfelt recollection about the man whom she knew well as his chief of staff and later, post presidency. Becker returns to St. Martin’s with Jim McGrath who wrote hundreds of speeches as staff writer and editor for President Bush. He has published a recollection of his service to the President in “Heartbeat: George Bush in His Own Words.” McGrath, who started his career at The White House, will interview Jean Becker and we expect the discussion to be lively and full of insight.
Jean Becker was chief of staff for George H. W. Bush from March 1, 1994, until his death on Nov. 30, 2018. She previously served as deputy press secretary to First Lady Barbara Bush from 1989 to 1992.
Jim McGrath began his service at The White House in 1991 as an editor and writer in the Executive Office of the President. In 1993, he became a member of President Bush’s personal staff in Houston.
St. Martin's and Amazon Smile
It you shop on Amazon, consider choosing St. Martin’s as your Amazon Smile Charity. Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase–excluding shipping, handling and taxes—to the charity of your choice. That means for every $5,000 in purchases, your charity will receive $25.
Start by logging onto smile.amazon.com using your regular Amazon login and password. (You will need to log out of your regular Amazon account first.) Options are slightly different if you are logging in from a desktop or mobile device, but specific directions are available by searching for Amazon Smile charities. From a desktop, go to Your Account from the navigation at the top of any page, and then select the option to choose a charity. Mobile device options are under the right-hand menu at the bottom of the screen. Once a charity is selected, it will automatically be applied when you log in to Amazon.com. (You must reselect your charity every six months.)

Type: St Martins Episcopal Church Houston to find St. Martin’s. Please note that there are many St Martins Episcopal Churches listed, so adding Houston makes the process easier. Other options include St Martins Episcopal Preschool Houston and the Hope and Healing Center & Institute.
Amazon pays charities on a quarterly basis. If you have questions, contact Becky Werlla at bwerlla@stmartinsepiscopal.com or 713-830-4135.
