Habib Abdur-Rahman
Head of ESG, Investcorp

Habib Abdur-Rahman is Head of ESG for Investcorp. Mr. Abdur-Rahman is based in Abu Dhabi and leads ESG programme development, strategy, and deployment across the firm. In this role, he oversees the consideration of ESG issues throughout Investcorp’s investing platforms. Mr. Abdur-Rahman received a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Imperial College London and a master’s degree in Oriental Studies from the University of Oxford. Investcorp is a leading, global alternative investment manager for individuals, families, and institutional investors, offering diverse strengths and proven resilience. Investcorp has a presence in 12 countries across the US, Europe, the GCC and Asia, including India, China, and Singapore. As of June 30, 2021, Investcorp Group had US $37.6 billion in total AUM, including assets managed by third party managers, and employed approximately 430 people from 45 nationalities globally across its offices.

Nadia Isabelle Bardawil
Senior Legal Counsel, UAE Investments Platform, Mubadala

Nadia Bardawil is a senior lawyer with over fifteen years’ experience working on the development and financing of energy assets in MENA and Europe. Nadia spent twelve years at global law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP before joining Mubadala as General Counsel to Masdar (Mubadala’s renewable energy asset) where she won numerous awards for leadership and promotion of diversity, and was named as a Chambers GC Influencer on their 2019 UAE list. She was recently appointed as senior legal advisor to Mubadala’s UAE Investments Platform, overseeing all of its regional utilities and energy businesses, including Masdar. In the ESG space, Nadia helped Mubadala develop its responsible investing policy; established a bespoke diversity and inclusion program for Masdar; and is a pro-active participant in the Mubadala group mentorship program, mentoring young women in business. She has participated in several roundtable events including ‘The Role of Women in Advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals’ and the development of the 2019 white paper “WiSER: Making Her Story Count in Sustainability”. Recently, she was a panel member for a discussion at the Aurora 50 Board Summit on “Being ESG ready for 2021 and beyond”. Nadia is an elected member of the Board of Trustees of the American Community School in Abu Dhabi and a voting member of the Masdar Investment Committee. Nadia has a passion for health and fitness and established Capital Fitness, a personal training studio in Abu Dhabi designed to encourage women to take up strength and conditioning training, in 2018.

Mercedes Vela Monserrate
Head of Sustainable Finance, Abu Dhabi Global Market

Head of Sustainable Finance at Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). Ms. Vela Monserrate oversees ADGM’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies and procedures, contributing to the long-term development of sustainable finance across Abu Dhabi and the UAE. She works closely with stakeholders to facilitate improved understanding and integration of material ESG factors, covering both risks and opportunities. Prior to joining ADGM, Mercedes held senior positions across both the public and private sectors in Brussels and London. Her professional history includes positions at Morgan Stanley, the Financial Conduct Authority, and the European Parliament. Mercedes holds a BSc and a Minor in European Studies and Globalisation and Diversity from Maastricht University and is part of various industry working groups on sustainable finance, including the Unites Nations’ Financial Centres for Sustainability Network Steering Committee.

Alishia Sullivan
Partner, Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP

Alishia K. Sullivan advises institutional investors with respect to their global investment activities, focusing primarily on investments in private funds, including leveraged buyout, hedge, infrastructure and real estate funds, and direct investments and co-investments. She assists clients in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating investment documentation, including subscription agreements, limited partnership agreements, side letters, managed account agreements, and other commercial agreements. She also has extensive experience with advising clients on structuring and maintaining their investment subsidiary platforms and negotiating bespoke investment advisory arrangements and operational agreements necessary to support investment activities. Alishia is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia. Alishia is a former member of the board of directors of two non-profit organizations whose missions focus on the care, empowerment, and education of women and children. Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Alishia was a partner at another global law firm. She previously worked as in-house counsel for a state-owned petroleum company in the Middle East and was a member of the global projects group of the Washington, DC, office of an international law firm.
