News You Can Use

April 7, 2021

Rector's Ramblings
Father Tom is taking an Easter break from writing his ramblings this week, but wishes to tell all to have a happy, holy Easter Season and extorts us all to spread the Good News that Jesus is risen! Alleluia!
Worship
Weekly Sunday Worship
Please join us for in-person worship in the Christ Church tent each Sunday for BCP 1928 Worship at 8:00 am, Family Worship at 10:20 am, or Rite I Worship at 11:15 am. All rules for safe gathering will be followed, including wearing masks, maintaining 6 feet of distance between members of different households and limiting the overall group size.

If you would prefer to worship in the comfort of your own home, we invite you to join us online at 9:15 am on Sunday for Rite II Holy Eucharist. This service is available on Facebook, YouTube or via the Christ Church website HERE

Drive-Through Communion will begin immediately at the conclusion of the Livestream service, at approximately 10:15 am and conclude at 11:15 am. All are welcome to join us there. Please wear your masks and if you have dogs, bring them along for a blessing and a treat, too!
The Lottery Is Open for Weekly 9:15 AM Worship in Christ Church
On Sundays, we invite you to join us for worship in the historic church during the 9:15 am live stream service.

Because of the ongoing pandemic, we still cannot fill the church to capacity, so we ask that you enter into the lottery to obtain safe seating. Names will be drawn each week and you will be called if your name(s) is chosen.

Worshipers in the church will remain masked at all times and will be screened for COVID symptoms prior to participation. Please call the office (912-638-8683) Tuesday-Thursday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, or on Fridays, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm to have your name entered into the lottery. You do NOT need to call each week for the 9:15 lottery. Your name will remain in the lottery until your name is drawn.

Evening Prayer

If you enjoy hearing Evening Prayer read, please look for it at 5:00 pm on the Christ Church Facebook page HERE. The Rite I bulletin for evening prayer can be found HERE. The Rite II bulletin for evening prayer can be found HERE.

From the Diocese of Georgia - Easter Book Study:
Love Is the Way: Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times
This week the Diocese of Georgia begins a 1Book1Diocese read of Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's Love Is the Way: Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times. We are currently reading the Introduction and First Chapter for discussions this week. (The book can be found for sale HERE.)

A book discussion guide for the Diocese of Georgia's 1Book1Diocese read of Love is the Way is now online here: Discussion Guide PDF. Some congregations are holding discussions of the book on Zoom, but you can create your own group as well by asking a friend or two to discuss the book with you each week.

Discussion Questions for this week:
Think back to your own family history. How did your family of origin fit into the larger movements in our country's history-for better or for worse?

If a hunger for love is universal, what barriers prevent the ethic of love from changing the world?

Josie Robbins embodied the love this book is about in her care for the Curry Family after Mrs. Curry's illness. Who has made sacrificial, self-giving love real to you?

Love's great, but how does it apply to real world decisions? Where have you seen love as an intentional action, and not just a sentiment, make a difference?
Season of Easter Devotions
Forward Movement is offering 50 Easter reflections this year, written by Father Scott Gunn. Most days, the reflections are rooted in the assigned scripture readings of the Episcopal Church. Weekday readings come from the Book of Common Prayer for the first week of Easter and Lesser Feasts & Fasts 2006 after that. Sunday readings come from the Revised Common Lectionary (chosen from among years A, B, or C). To mix things up a bit, Musical Mondays are based on an Easter anthem or hymn. Throwback Thursdays offer reflections on some of the writings of church leaders of the first few centuries.

Join us for these Eastertide reflections at https://50days.org, as we proclaim the astounding Good News that Jesus Christ has triumphed.
Daily Devotionals
If you are a regular reader of the Forward Day by Day devotionals, you may pick up a copy in the church office during regular business hours Tues. - Thurs., 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, or Fri., 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. You can also find the devotionals online HERE.

Mission and Outreach
ECW Tour of Homes Outreach Campaign 2021: Local Women's and Children's Charities Are Still Counting On Us!
For two years, Covid-19 has prevented us from holding the annual Christ Church Tour of Homes, but that has not dampened the spirits nor reduced the commitment of Tour Organizers and Volunteers, whose mission to assist women and children in need continues unabated.

We ask you to consider donating to the Tour Outreach Fund to support organizations that have come to depend on grants from the Tour. In recent years our total grants reached up to $70,000 per year. With the generosity of Tour supporters, former volunteers, former ticket holders and other members of the community we hope to raise at least half that amount in 2021.

Already, many generous gifts have been received and we are most grateful to those who haved helped us so far!

You can also visit the TOH website to make your gift online at christchurchtourofhomes.org

Tour organizers (ECW and prior year leaders) can be reached by email at [email protected]
