BCDI-Atlanta proudly introduces the third video in our new series for Powerful Families - our two-generation innovation program. Each video encourages parents to spend more intentional and attentive time with their children. Check out this month’s feature, “Mealtime”.
Call for Nominations

The Community Leadership Awards provide an opportunity for BCDI-Atlanta to award professionals and advocates who are leading efforts to improve and advance the quality of life for Black children and families. Nominations have been extended through October 15.

The 2021 awards will take place during our 40th Anniversary Benefit Gala on Saturday, December 4. We look forward to honoring 11 honorees.

Applications are open for BCDI-Atlanta's 2022 Board of Directors.

BCDI-Atlanta’s Culturally Responsive Literacy Course equips early educators with information and resources necessary for building relationships and experiences that support the needs of young learners and parents.

Course completers can apply to receive FREE books, thanks to our Read to Succeed partnerships.

Atlanta Choose Healthy Life is a national Choose Healthy Life (CHL) initiative addressing the COVID-19 pandemic across Black communities. In partnership with United Way of Greater Atlanta and Ebenezer Baptist Church, BCDI-Atlanta facilitates the implementation of Atlanta CHL with local churches. 

Last month, 62 community events were held resulting in the administration of 601 COVID-19 vaccinations and 1,041 COVID-19 tests.

BCDI-Atlanta is collecting personal stories to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and end the pandemic! Please share your story about why YOU got vaccinated.

In partnership with Lyft, United Way is helping more people access COVID-19 vaccines through the Ride United program. Don’t allow lack of transportation to keep you from getting your vaccine. Dial 2-1-1 to see if you qualify for a FREE or discounted ride!
The “Meals for Kids” interactive map directs people to local sites where kids can get free meals. The site finder currently lists more than 20,000 meal sites from 23 states, and more sites will be added as states submit data each week. 

BCDI-Atlanta and Georgia Organics are proud to extend our partnership to offer this 4-module online course to engage early education stakeholders in discovering and planning developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive Farm to Early Care and Education experiences for young children.

Talking Is Teaching
We are excited to share this month’s “Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing” bundle, Let’s Talk About Potty Time, thanks to our partners at Too Small to Fail!

Every child develops at their own pace, but when your little one is ready for potty training, it can be a big milestone! There are many ways to help encourage your child throughout the potty-training process as well as to turn potty time into a fun part of the day! This month's bundle is filled with ways to help parents and caregivers talk, read, and sing with their children about potty time.

National Hispanic American Heritage Month
September 15 - October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month, celebrating the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

BCDI-Atlanta is always excited to partner with Voices for Georgia’s Children to celebrate Georgia Pre-K Week. This year, we partnered with McIntosh Trail Head Start to provide culturally relevant children’s books with the goal of improving social-emotional development through representation, while increasing early literacy skills.
BCDI-Atlanta President Dr. Bisa Batten Lewis conducted two presentations at the Council for Professional Recognition's 2021 Early Educators Leadership Conference in Leesburg, Virginia - "A Deep Dive into the Child Development Associate® (CDA) Handbook for High School: A Guide to Advocacy and Implementation and a Council Chat on “Practicing What We Preach: The Profile of a Quality Early Education Profession”.
